did you know that you can do some really cool effects in vanilla OBS by simply overlaying multiple image files and playing around with the blending modes?

here we have two black and white images of light rays, with horizontal scrolling filters applied, set to "multiply" (right-click the source and look for "blending mode") and overlaid on a plain blue background:

now swap out the blue background for a nice low-res forest scene (courtesy of DigitalBlasphemy):

mmmmm yeah. this would make a nice screensaver.

you can also apply color correction filters to the images and tweak the brightness and contrast until you get exactly the effect you're looking for. here i've also applied a hint of yellow to the top layer of light rays to give them a nice warm sunshiney glow

what's really cool is that this requires almost no resources to render. all three images are 320x180 pixels, scaled up to 1280x720 with bilinear interpolation for the light rays and nearest-neighbor for the background. even a relatively weak GPU can handle this without breaking a sweat!
