this is my backpack! i like it quite a lot.

i have it in the "wine" color, as seen above. it's made with cordura fabric with leather and brass hardware.
it has three compartments, only two of which really count, which i much prefer to having many smaller compartments, at least for every day use. the front is a snap-fastened pouch, which you can close tighter by using the belt buckle strap thingies. that is what i call The Emergency Pouch, and it is full to bursting. one day i want to make an insert for it that holds all of the pouch's contents, that i can just yank out and immediately have access to whatever it is i need. here is everything i keep in it:

  • two doses of narcan
  • a pill container with tylenol and benadryl
  • an epipen
  • a small flashlight
  • two tampons and two pads
  • a compass
  • a whistle
  • trauma shears
  • two pairs of gloves
  • ten yards of wound-packing gauze
  • a mylar shock blanket
  • two chest seals
  • a sharpie
  • a CAT tourniquet
  • 6" wide wound dressing
  • a gerber suspension nxt multitool (its not a great multitool tbh)

(if you think that's excessive or paranoid, you're not an american trans college student at an actively left wing liberal arts school)

there is a pocket on either side of the backpack, in one i keep an umbrella (it's a repel umbrella, it's fine, it's not as good as wirecutter would have you think), and in the other i keep my zojirushi water bottle (which is as good as wirecutter would have you think).

there's a flat zippered compartment on the back of the backpack, in such a location that its covered when you're wearing it. i think it's meant for like, passports or something, but i just keep my kobo clara 2e ereader in it.

then there's the main compartment, with a padded pocket for a laptop, where i keep my framework 13. behind that is a zippered pocket where i usually keep a couple cables for easy access, usb-c to c, and usb-c to lightning.

then there's the main compartment, which almost always plays host to at least my tech pouch, stationery pouch, and clipboard.

my clipboard is a king jim magflap clipboard, which is the best clipboard money can buy. it keeps loose papers for class, which i get a lot of from my music theory class.

my tech pouch is a random one i found on amazon for 15 dollars, i don't really recommend it and i want to make my own but it's fine for now. it has:

  • all the expansion cards for my framework laptop that im not currently using, which is usually hdmi, usb-a, ethernet, and microsd.
  • a lightning to 3.5mm TRS jack adapter
  • two 3.5mm TRS jack couplers
  • a quarter-inch TS plug to 3.5mm jack adapter
  • a usb-a to usb-c adapter
  • three flash drives for various purposes
  • a usb-a sd and microsd card reader
  • a usb-c usb hub
  • any cables i need that i don't need as often as the ones i mentioned before

my stationery pouch is probably it's own post, tbh.

next to the main pocket are two elastic pockets, similar to the ones on the outside with the umbrella and water bottle. in one i keep a battery bank with the ports facing upright so i can just plug in and get juice easily, and in the other i keep an oxo good grips steel straw set. the carrying case for them is designed to carry two straws and a brush, but i only keep one straw and use the other two slots for a pair of umeshiso chopsticks (i just got their cutlery set today, bringing me up to three pairs of chopsticks, lol)

then there's a velcro pocket, on which theres a narrow pocket for a wallet or something and a mesh zipper pocket. i don't routinely use these for anything in particular, and tbh the velcro pocket is mostly useless because it's just one small patch of velcro in the center and very easily spills open, especially because its attached to the front face of the backpack which flops forward when opened all the way, inverting the pocket. this is literally my only complaint about this backpack, and i'll probably just add a zipper to it some time. the zipper pull for the mesh pocket has an airtag attached to it, though.

presently the backpack has a jacob geller "they're haunted by us pin", which i like because it matches the backpack really well. i want to remove the branded patch on the front sometime, which i might just actually do right after i finish writing this cause it'll take like, a minute.

that's my backpack! i like it quite a lot.
