Just encountered one of the Very Good people out there in the world...
I listed my pedal harp for sale yesterday. I originally bought it at £6k 15 years ago. Since then it has aged and is now 25 years old (which is pretty old in harp years), withstood a bit of aesthetic damage in an obvious location, and I can't really promise buyers there aren't any problems with it that need addressing as it has not been serviced as often as it perhaps should be (though it was serviced 3 years ago and the guy seemed to think it was in good condition). I figured considering all of that, the fact I didn't want to be waiting forever for it to sell as I'm moving house later this year, and looking at other harps that are being sold (though I struggled to find relevant data points), that £4.5 likely made sense as a price.
I was Very rapidly inundated with offers and completely overwhelmed with how to handle all of them. Lots of people requesting viewings, asking questions, one person even offering to pay money immediately to secure it...
Then a harp teacher reached out to me and gave her thoughts that I was under-pricing my harp, and that because the price of pedal harps has gone up in recent years I could potentially get as much as £7k if I'm really lucky (and that I shouldn't settle for less than 6) even despite its age/condition. She gave examples of harps on various sales websites as examples of different price points that things sell for, she suggested three better avenues that I could sell through and the best way to approach each of those, gave me advice on how to avoid scammers, and even said that if I do sell it on my own instead of commissioning someone to sell it for me then I can ask whoever is buying it for their harp teacher's name and she will be able to tell me if it's a legit person or not.
I am honestly completely blown away by her generosity reaching out and explaining all of this in such thorough detail. There really are good people out there.
