Slug is an aquatic hunter and a member of the Red Raven Towing & Salvage crew. Beneath the thick ice of Jupiter's moon Europa lies the salty ocean they call home, a remote place flush with life, and it is Slug's job to turn that life into food. Slug is a hunter by trade, skillful at finding and tracking their quarry through the icy seas, feeding and sustaining their community. They are friendly but direct, having use for neither jokes nor lies, and they love to hear and share stories about their greatest hunts. Aboard the Jackrabbit, Slug serves as the crew's pest control expert. Among the first to board a shipwreck, Slug is great at detecting and tracking xenofauna, parasites, fungal infestation or other unwanted surprises hiding in the many tight spaces of a derelict starship.
Europans are strict water-breathers and one of the primary residents of Titan Garden's aquatic district. They have excellent low-light vision, the ability to rotate their eyes 270° around, and are able to detect heat sources by way of an organ in their snout- in their native ocean of Europa they have long regarded the radiant warmth of the moon's core as the center of their world, and so refer to the universe beyond the miles-thick sheet of ice "The Great Below". They have developed pressurized environmental containment suits for exploring The Great Below, which are operated by the Europan pilot sitting in the torso compartment. The helmet assembly lifts up, the torso hatch swings open and the abdominal latch pivots down to allow a Europan easy entry or exit from the suit. Europans are thumbless, and their evo suit design has evolved over time and contact with Inner Belt hominids to more easily navigate the environments they constructed for themselves.
Slug's evo suit is a fully-contained pocket of Europan ocean comfort, and so they are extremely resilient to extreme atmospheric conditions, including toxic gas, frigid cold, radiation, airborne spores and even the vacuum of space, thanks to magnetic soles in their feet. Extreme heat is their one vulnerability, as this will still cause the water in their suit to become rather uncomfortable, but with a Mercurian captain to handle those conditions Slug is extremely well-equipped to search out surprises on a salvage job. When a ship's structural integrity is questionable, Slug boldly volunteers to investigate, and while they have the good hunter's instinct to not venture into certain danger, they have required a grappling hook rescue once or twice. No one's perfect, so the crew's all gotta look out for each other.
An old friend of Keera and neighbor in Jupiter's orbit, Slug was the next member to be recruited to Red Raven's crew. After the 489B Incident the crew reviewed the needs of their nascent operation; Amy and Haley were not strangers to self-defense in their individual pasts, but some tow jobs would rather like to keep their cargo as intact as possible, even if that cargo could bite through a Venusian hide, so enlisting a professional critter-wrangler was decided. Keera sold Slug on the job by framing it as a grand hunt throughout The Great Below, and Slug was very glad for the opportunity. As a provider of food in their own ocean, Slug has a habit of bringing dead xenofauna in from a salvage job as an offer for dinner. The crew are often skeptical, and leave it up to Haley's android stomach to test the waters- so far there has been one actually pretty alright edible meal out of the several Slug has hunted up out of a shipwreck. Slug can survive outside their evo suit for a fair bit of time with a lungful of water, and their squishy, wriggly body makes them an excellent greaseman on a heist. While managing their suit is a logistical challenge, outside the suit they are excellent at breaching secure spaces and reporting security conditions. Slug's inability or unwillingness to speak lies makes them a shockingly poor gambler, and with a crew of four it can be fun to have one player hold up their winning hands like trophy catches, although it is the whole crew's duty to keep Slug away from the Mobius Casino when they are docked at Titan Garden.
