Clover is Red Raven's resident computer systems and data security expert. She is an android created by Accra Intelligent Systems Laboratories based on Terra and designed to be a self-teaching artificial intelligence. Clover's physical body is a small spherical droid with four flight control petals, but her true self is a hard-light projection she uses to interact with the world around her. She is gentle and curious, having a disarming charm that can quickly defuse tense situations. When Clover is nervous or unsure about her surroundings she can hide her physical state inside her hard-light projection, but when she is comfortable in her company and her environment her droid state will come out to float just behind her shoulder. As a member of the Red Raven crew she scans shipwreck systems for hidden data caches, ship system schematics and terminal logs that help the team understand the state of a wreck and, working with Keera, learn the history of the ship and its crew up until the moment of their fate.
As an adaptive AI attached to a small floating drone, baby Clover was given a set of data decryption tools and tasked with scanning, cataloging and preserving old Terran data storage archives, cracking encryption protocols she was equipped to and building new decryption tools to crack protocols she was not. Accra Systems designed her in this way so that in the process of combing a wealth of old human media she could build her own understanding of the world around her and, in turn, develop into her own personality. Clover's AI emerged as a bright and optimistic personality, and created her own hard-light projection as a reflection of her self-identity, as a mirror of how she sees herself. She also developed a wanderlust in her time in the archives, learning so much about the world outside the cradle of Accra Systems and later, about the systems outside Terra and the galaxy beyond the Sol system itself. There is so much to see and so many secrets to crack open.
Androids come in many shapes and styles, and Clover's uses a hard-light hologram to represent herself to those around her. This method has its own unique strengths and limitations; being a light construct Clover isn't affected by gravity and can float about as she pleases, although she does run gravity simulations into her projection renderer to blend in with her companions, this feature is optional for her. She is faintly luminous at all times with a soft corona of red, green and blue light around herself. As a drawback to being a light construct she can't lift anything too heavy, having enough resistance to carry things as light as dinnerware or to interact with computer consoles, but she is exempt from the physical labor of working in a salvage company. While she can technically alter her projection to take on any conceivable form, it is a projection of her self and she will adamantly refuse to present herself as anyone else, although she will happily change her projection's wardrobe and hairstyle as needed, she will always project herself as Clover, because that's who she is.
The team came to meet Clover during a routine tow job. A commercial flight from Terra to Titan was experiencing trouble with its warp engines and came out of warp between the asteroid belt and Jupiter, requesting manual assistance for the remainder of the journey in order to maintain the safety of its passengers. The Jackrabbit arrived to magnetically affix itself to the bottom of the commercial vessel and use its boosters to assist in the ride to Titan Garden. While the ride was uneventful, Haley- the Jackrabbit's pilot- noticed some systems menus coming up on her console display that she didn't remember opening, nothing to interfere with her flight duties but definitely someone was going through the Jackrabbit's systems libraries and, by way of the ship's astronav computer, into Haley's own android systems. Whoever it was immediately stopped upon entering an android's databases, which was both polite and alarming, and the whole crew of four was on high alert until they arrived safely on Titan. When they disembarked Clover immediately sought out the tow crew, introduced herself and promptly apologized for trespassing in Haley's systems data. Clover saw just enough to become intensely curious of Haley, however, as an astronav android with a very curiously-human demeanor and something abnormal about her internal systems that she wanted to get to know her better. After the Delta Astronautics heist and recovering a potentially-worthless encrypted data chip, the crew knew they had need for a computer expert to help improve their data recovery efforts. Clover was excited by the idea of zipping around and being exposed to so much new data she happily accepted. She later learned about the crew's thieving side-job, and referencing her database of Terran criminal history determined that the scope of Red Raven's work was mostly within her acceptable parameters.
A quirk about having Clover on the team is she will refuse to participate in a job if the moral arithmetic of its goals produces a negative value, so if the team isn't extracting wealth from power it won't have a computer expert on that job. They are okay with this, and so Clover serves as a finger resting on the moral scale of a band of benevolent villains.
