Lamp, short for Lampherbellazephyleer (LAM-fur-bell-uh-Zeff-uh-Leer) is a Neptunian living on Titan. A founding member of the Titan Dockworkers Union, Lamp serves as Titan Garden's in-house Shipwright, designing new from-scratch starship construction for private or commercial use. One of Neptune's foremost experts on starship engineering, she is always curious to hear other people's needs so she can broaden her own understanding of what features different kinds of people value in a starship. Lamp is a very friendly and emotive person, wearing a lot of her feelings on her ears and her tail. While she is an open and kind person who is receptive to outside input, she is also a professional who understands her authority in Neptunian astronautics and will happily discard unhelpful feedback once her helper is gone.

Titan's place in the Sol system is a special one. While Saturn's many moons are flush with all kinds of living organisms, there are no sentient lifeforms occupying any of them, so Saturn is a bit of a frontier space in between the Jovian worlds, Caelus and Neptune. There is a lot of interest for people from all across the system to travel to Saturnian worlds, and once they're here it could be difficult to acquire any sort of specialized starship from their home worlds or some other major planetary stardock, and that's where Lamp comes in. Where buying a used or refurbished starship from a Titan Garden dockyard vendor isn't sufficient to a starfarer's needs, Lamp can be hired to design and oversee the construction of a brand new starship built to your or your company's exacting specifications.

While she is in the business of selling starships, Lamp isn't here to compete with anyone on Titan Garden. In fact, her professional specialty is designing ships with off-the-shelf or otherwise readily-available parts, so she is a very frequent browser of salvage company yards and hangars, inventorying parts she can include in her designs and put on the Garden's expense account. "The best ship is the one you can build, not the one you can dream about", that's her working philosophy, and in the relatively remote region of Saturnian space that is an extremely healthy philosophy to have. Lamp has designed small ships for remote farmers with strict temperature control needs for their produce, mid-sized ships with large soil bed and light solutions for transporting sick or injured Ganymedeans and large ships with complicated exterior gravity mesh arrays for crews who hunt and process exofauna they catch in deep space. There isn't a one-size-fits-all solution to starships, and while the used ship lots and salvage companies have good affordable stock, sometimes a bespoke solution is required, and those needs keep Lamp very busy in Titan Garden.

Both Red Raven and Timberwolf see a lot of Lamp, as the two salvage companies carry a lot of odds and ends they recover from their shipwreck operations. Lamp always pops in very quietly, usually tapping her claws on the hangar door frame with a gentle "hiiiiiiiiiiiii" and asks if she can snoop around, and both crews are happy to let her in. She'll often pull different members of each crew aside to ask a few questions of, like she'll show Haley or Mahnoor a bridge design she's planned for a ship and see what they think about it from a pilot's perspective, or she'll talk to Pixel to see what he thinks of the frame layout of a ship, or she'll ask Lydia's input on scaling warp drives to safely work within a client's needs, or she'll ask Amy to come out to the shipyard and lend her Mercurian eye to a design implementation that isn't performing as it was designed. The one person on both crews Lamp generally avoids talking to is Bell, Red Raven's own Neptunian gunnery expert. Lamp used to talk to Bell since they share the same native tongue but Bell keeps inquiring about Neptunian diamond plating and recommending importing original Neptunian diamond window panes, which is somewhat perpendicular to Lamp's design goals. It's always about the damned glass with Bell! Lamp privately wrote him off as a bit of a nuisance and stopped seeking his input on her designs. Bell hasn't picked up on that, but Scarlet has, so whenever Lamp comes around the Red Raven shop Scarlet will politely ask Bell to show her what's on the menu that night, letting the little Shipwright do her work in peace.
