Weaver Eight-One-Three is a frequent patron of the Ox & Carriage. He is an Android manufactured by Horizon Adaptive Technologies Partnership, the only one of the six licensed Android makers based on Mars, and he currently sells himself as an IT and networking specialist. Weaver813's personality algorithm at one point recognized that wording his feelings in a way that is opposite of his intentions produced fun results, so he has become a very sarcastic guy, but in a chipper and upbeat kind of way. Beneath his sunny sarcasm is a fairly carefree and optimistic foundation; Weaver813 never seems to be worried or nervous, he always seems to enjoy the moment and takes his life for what it is.
- Weaver813 can be hired for jobs involving network routing, relay satellites, hardware firewalls and other IT complications.
- Weaver813 occasionally hires bodyguards to escort him through IT jobs in areas threatened by hostile wildlife, bandits or other belligerent locals.
Among the six types of Android in the Sol system, Horizon units enjoy the oldest pedigree. Units like Weaver813 are descendants of the original Martian CX Units, the mixed-organic constructs who built Titan Station two hundred years ago. Following the Camerahead incident a number of modifications were made to the core CX design, letting it usher in the modern era of artificial sentients. The first and most notable change is the large glowing screen- the old "camerahead" type frames felt very impersonal and threatening, so an emotion display unit was installed to give Horizon droids a more relatable face, with their optical sensor arrays simply mounted on either side. Cathode ray tubes were chosen instead of holograms or flatscreen panels for their inviting warmth and softness.
Horizon droids are built to be durable and adaptive members of Martian expeditions, so they have two key qualities other androids don't share: The first is they are designed with extremely simple mechanical builds to ensure that they are easy to repair far away from the convenience of a workshop with simple or makeshift tools. The second is they have a modular, cartridge-based memory allocation system. Horizon droids have logic and personality systems built onto adaptable RAM drives, but their skillset memory is ROM based- their central computers are in their chest, the same as CX units, and these computers are connected to a set of three cartridge ports behind the sternal panel of their chest plating. In order for a Martian expedition to have the widest range of skills available, Horizon droids pop Job Cartridges into their chest which gives them instant access to a Jack of all Trades degree of skill mastery within one to three given fields. These cartridges can be swapped out freely, but when they are removed no memory of a loaded skill is retained, their hardware is simply not built to allow that. As such, a Horizon android without any cartridges exhibits a degree of executive dysfunction, still able to speak and move about but unable to exercise any kind of skilled action. With a full bay of cartridges there are few sentient lifeforms more reliable and adaptive. The three lights at the top of a Horizon droid's head unit will light up when each cartridge is being accessed.
Weaver813 has a full bank of cartridges. His three skillsets are Information Technology for his primary trade, Architecture as a supplemental knowledgebase and Electrical Engineering in his third bank. He also carries a Locks & Security cartridge to help him access places he needs to be and a General Self Defense - Ranged Weaponry cartridge for when he finds himself in a jam, and when he needs to use the latter two cartridges he will swap them out with two of his other carts when the situation doesn't require immediate access to those skillsets. While both Red Raven and Timberwolf have computer specialists on their rosters, Weaver813's bank of talents proves to be a useful compliment, since he can work with the physical network within a building, satellite, space station or other structure, rather than focusing on the data that passes through that network. He is a valuable hire, and in a pinch he can hold his own under fire- just be mindful when he needs all three of his cartridge bays for his networking tasks, your team will need to escort him safely as he'll be pretty helpless while he works.
