Keera hails from the Jovian moon Callisto and is a crewmember working for Red Raven Towing & Salvage. He is a polyglot, able to speak most of the Sol system's languages, and his role as the Jackrabbit's communications officer is crucial to the crew's service. While translator technology exists it is often terse and mechanical in the translations it produces; linguists who understand the idioms, nuance and colloquial use of languages spoken by starfarers and planetary destinations are extremely useful members of any starship crew, and doubly so when your crew is arriving at a shipwreck and you're not certain who is on board or what language they speak.

As a Callistan, Keera is the largest member of the Red Raven crew. Callistans have long manes of sharp flexible quills and are able to extend additional quills from their back, shoulders and arms. They evolved these features because Callisto is home to many kinds of megafauna and, as they like to put it, "Callisto got some damn big predators". They have a natural resistance to the cold and don't need to bundle up quite as much as their neighbor species, which is just as well since Callistan clothing incorporates banded strip panels that allow their quills to extend without tearing their shirts apart. Their quills tend to puff out when they get mad or stressed, which given the lifeforms they share a homeworld with is entirely understandable.

Keera has a pretty relaxed personality and a somewhat grim sense of humor, and because of this he has excellent comms discipline to avoid causing trouble over a hot mic. He's not as mechanically-proficient as his captain so he tends to lend his muscle to the team in a helper capacity, but he absolutely loves to pick through salvage looking for treasures and curiosities, and has a particular interest in finding music in a salvage job. As the ship's linguist it's often his job to translate ship logs and records found on space wrecks, piecing together the story of how a ship's fate came to pass; his gallows humor helps him cope with this part of his job, as he tends to be the one to read a crewmember's last words.

Red Raven came to meet Keera on one of their earliest jobs, when the crew was just Amy and Haley. They were dispatched to tow a Callistan transport vessel with a disabled thruster back to the nearest space station. The transport ship's captain seemed very animated and upset during the service call and they didn't quite understand why until they docked the ship at their destination port, a stardock outside Saturn called Station 489B. Only then did they learn the ship was transporting giant Callistan predators whose containers were also damaged in the collision that broke their thruster, and were now loose in the cargo hold when station dockworkers opened the hatch to perform an inspection. Keera happened to be on that station looking for work and he thought the whole spectacle that unfolded was very funny, he introduced himself to Amy and Haley as a professional linguist and they hired him on immediately. To date The Station 489B Monster Incident has not been repeated.

Amy and Haley are co-owners of the Red Raven Towing & Salvage company. Red Raven maintains an office and a garage just inside one of the docking bays of the Garden's outer wall, and as towing service operators they hold license to dock the Jackrabbit II inside the Garden itself. They lead a small crew of workers to help run Red Raven, which makes its money from a few different sources:

  1. Being a licensed tow service doesn't pay very much but it does grant them docking rights in the Garden and access to restricted spaces, in addition to being good karma.
  2. The salvage half of Towing & Salvage means they are always listening for talk of lost shipwrecks, where they will salvage cargo and equipment which they attempt to repair or refurbish for resale.
  3. Their big paydays come from planning and executing good old-fashioned heists. Taking advantage of the bubbles of authority in space, as well as the constant circulation of semi-operational ships registered to ports all over the Sol system that come through their possession, the Red Raven crew like to find targets who have perhaps a little more than they ought to and relieve them of their valuables. Item 3) jeopardizes their license to operate item 1), but if you don't get caught it's hard to prove, and item 2) can explain occasional spikes in financial fortune. There are certainly less interesting ways to live the starfaring life.

Amy is a Mercurian woman around 30 Terran years old and the captain of the Jackrabbit II. She is a very outward and expressive person, tending to wear her emotions a click or two louder than average in whichever direction they are set. Mercurians are known to display specific talents- some believe connected to their ember-colored eyes and close proximity to the Sun- and Amy's is an aptitude for inorganic machinery. She is able to sight-read unfamiliar machines and comprehend how their components fit together, which makes her extremely adept at jury-rigging, repair and mechanical sabotage. This talent does not extend to computers, and she has studied electrical engineering in order to supplement her mechanical gifts with electronic knowledge. Amy has a risk-taking personality, she loves to build big loud things that go fast and make her brain release the good chemicals. Her favorite drink is Red Stuff, a Mercurian red tea that gives a kick similar to Terran caffeine; many corner stores in the Garden keep it in stock. She has a prosthetic left arm which she likes to tinker with herself, having added a little spring-loaded slot under her wrist panel to keep her credit stick in, in addition to a grappling hook that pops out of her forearm which makes her job navigating space wrecks in zero gravity a lot easier. She lost her arm in an ugly break-up with her ex-girlfriend.

Haley is an android of indeterminate age and the pilot of the Jackrabbit II. She is a very friendly, somewhat goofy personality, reserved at times but very happy to watch something interesting unfold without interfering in it. Her name comes from her chassis model, a HAL-3 or "Human-Astronav Liaison mk. 3" android manufactured by Delta Astronautical Solutions to allow starship pilots an easier way to interface with very complex astronavigation computers. HAL-3s are an obsolete model, as HAL-5 is the current standard, and this age can be seen in the chipping paint around the seams of Haley's face and finger paneling. The two large antenna blades on her audio sensors let her interface with ship computers at a very high bandwidth, they are an integral part of her design and she thinks they look rather cool.

As the story goes, Haley was originally a Terran starship pilot whose ship was stranded in space outside active trade routes just behind Caelus's orbit after debris collision dealt heavy damage to their craft and knocked out communications. As the remaining survivor this Terran pilot couldn't call for help and so made the calculated risk to use their ship's remaining power, Holonet headset and a bit of napkin math to try and upload their consciousness into the ship's HAL-3 android in the hopes of outlasting their mortal body. It was Amy flying the Jackrabbit who eventually found the derelict Terran ship and salvaged an astronav droid in critical low-battery mode. A careful repair job and a new battery later and the HAL-3 unit was operational. It is uncertain if the Terran pilot's survival attempt was fully successful but the astronav droid demonstrated uncharacteristically human and intuitive habits and an adept knack for flight, and so Amy and Haley became fast friends. Haley being a complete package of pilot and astronav droid makes her a uniquely skillful starship operator. Her encounter with her old ship also tends to make her the risk-averse half of the duo, as she believes she cashed in all her good luck chips once already. Her chassis has a biomass energy converter to keep her battery topped up, but she has a particular love for eating Cosmo's Pizza in Titan Garden's A-district, particularly for the taste of all the toppings from all over the Sol system.

The two balance each other out to make an effective pair, one pulling the other into just enough trouble to make life interesting, with the other pulling the one just far enough back so as to not self-destruct. This balance works out very well when planning a heist, as they haven't been definitively caught yet.
