Underemployed? Overheated? Anhedonic? Humidity index at 200%? Feeling like a freak on a leash? Why not do like I did, and build your own doohickey-grade Hitbox?

BUT, OK, ALSO, it is intoxicatingly straightforward to make a Hitbox, because all it really consists of is a project box, some switches, some buttons to poke the switches, some wires, and a microcontroller to make everything work. That last part, traditionally speaking, is where the expense of making one of these things has concentrated, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the GP2040-CE project, which uses a $4-5 microcontroller in place of, like, a $130 microcontroller. I will probably write more down about this process if only to get into how cheap it was (or was not) to do this, and to exhibit that you can indeed do nearly everything wrong and still make a working, responsive, good-feeling controller anyway. BUT FOR NOW I have fucked up all my footnote links making that inline Q&A pane and trying to fix it is stressing me out so I'm just going to hit post and release these thoughts into the LifeStream. Thanks for reading my blog chost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Image source. If you're even a little interested in fighting games, Pat is a great follow.

  2. I am thrilled to announce that, between the time I drafted this post and the time I actually posted it, I 1CCed Revengers of Vengeance.

  3. It isn't compatible with the PS5 or the Xbox Series S/X, but it IS compatible with the Switch, with the PC (ergo Fightcade) AND with the MiSTer project. To me, this is ideal, because my realistic use case will be using this controller for One Must Fall 2097 (4).

  4. Did you know there’s an active OMF2097 monthly tournament series on Twitch? Right now, in this fresh hell of 2023? “There Is a Balm in Gilead” — Dr. Lynn Yarr
