Just started Mask of the Rose and it's really cool so far. I only just unlocked the story building mechanic which seems interesting, but I really really hope it's more "put this theory together and ask around to see if it's right" and not "put this story together and that's what happened."

Maybe unpopular opnion? (Maybe??) But I don't really like to direct my own narrative experience that much. It feels less like interactive art and more like playing with toys. I want to be surprised and wrong about things. I don't want to dictate characters' lives and actions. Seems like it's not going this way, so I'll probably love it, but it did bring to mind Paradise Killer.

I really loved the world and characters in PK but the trial felt really bad and kind of blew the whole thing for me. Like yeah, that's the point, you make the truth, it's a journey, whatever, but I literally had no difficulty and was not "wrong" about anything. It all just went my way. I looked into as much as i could and still felt like i didn't get the complete picture, then it ended and i guess i kind of did get it? Maybe. Who knows!

Thematically, i guess that's a mildly interesting critique of the justice system, but...ehhh. Since this story feature just unlocked in Mask of the Rose, it could go in interesting directions. I just hope I can't like slot in "Griz is afraid of x" and have that be the case.

Anyway, game is cool so far!
