###The Cohost Global Feed

also: ##The Cohost Global Feed, #The Cohost Global Feed, #Global Cohost Feed, #The Global Cohost Feed, #global feed, #Cohost Global Feed

Cohost is by far the best experience I've ever had with social media. The community here have been awesome, the 4 person @staff have been awesome, and the website itself has been awesome.

It's the only site I've found that doesn't feed me algorithmically chosen nonsense to the point of being too overwhelmed to even log into the platform. It's easily one of the best user experiences I think I've had on social media since the early days of MySpace.

The only solution I've been able to come up with is pay-walling the website entirely. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't be happy with that, but in my honest opinion, it's entirely worth paying a subscription for a modern social platform that doesn't siphon my data.

Anyways, here's a comfy protogen to ease the pain. Goodnight, Cohost.

EDIT - now that jkap has confirmed we'll be able to log in during the Read Only period, i've moved my where to find me links to my sidebar. that way, they won't just be out there forever if this site gets archived.

most are set so anyone logged in to cohost can see them, but discord is only shown to people i follow.

begin longpost

i found this site around the time elon bought twitter, which coincided with the long slow death of blaseball. blaseball dying really brought me down, but cohost made me hopeful that the internet could still be good. i still hope for that a bit, but it feels harder and harder every day, especially since (despite my repeated efforts) i don't think i convinced any IRL or internet friends to ever try this site out.

besides nice posts, here's some cool things i got from this site.

  • cohost got me back into RSS. I use feedbin, in case you're looking for recommendations. if any of you have a site with a RSS feed, post it here and I'll follow it.

  • cohost convinced me to start pirating media again.

  • cohost also pointed me towards a ton of cool music on bandcamp i wouldn't have found otherwise.

  • i daily drive linux now, and also have a NAS, largely thanks to this site.

  • cohost re-affirmed something i'd learned about myself from Blaseball - which was that even though i'm a straight cis dude, i'm much happier spending time in heavily queer online spaces than i am in mainstream straight ones. ya'll are just nicer and more interesting to be around.

  • cohost pointed me to a ton of cool creators who's work i now follow elsewhere.

  • i literally just put a holofoil eggbug sticker on my laptop today before reading this news.

i'm really not sure where i'll go after this. i'm not much of a poster, and none of the main sites really appeal to me. i probably should set up a bluesky for following current events since twitter is so terrible for that now, but fuck me man i really don't want to. i'm also open to setting up a mastadon account, but picking an instance seems like A Lot. If anyone can recommend one, I'd appreciate it.

wherever i go, i'm going to keep "friend of eggbug" in my profile for a long time.
