With this new covid surge i don't want to be that thing but we need to have the talk again. Please understand that going to concerts, raves and high populated events, especially if they're indoor events, is really going to make this covid surge a lot worse. In fact, it's the reason for the surge! All these people wanting to have a fun summer and go see their favorite artists and that's fine to want that.
Just keep in mind going to countless events, already not masking and not having the new course of vaccines (not knocking people who are allergic and can't get them, you are ok) is just going to contribute to new variants and plenty more deaths. I get it that people don't like thinking about all of those who died these past five years but I need you to understand how bad things are. The levels are about where they were in 2021, one of the worst periods where the variants started to really kick off.
I don't want to be a downer but I need you to start taking this shit seriously now. I shouldn't be afraid to leave my home, to pick up food or have guests over BECAUSE YOU DON'T CARE! Risk your own life all you want but stop risking all the immunocompromised, elderly and those who work in the medical field, not to mention all the others out there who are effected.
Wear a cloth mask, it's not preferred but at least it's something at this point. Get the new vaccine if you're able! The old ones you've got in 2021 are not going to be effective as much against the newest variants that have come since and it will seriously help if you do get sick. MASK WHEN YOU'RE SICK! If you're able to isolate at home in a room away from other members in your household then do it! If you're not that privileged then Wear a good quality respirator that fits properly to your face and wear it when you're around other people.
I'm glad that you're all having fun and I hope you're enjoying all the stuff you've done this summer. I just want you to think about the implications of not doing the bare minimum, so maybe you will pick up some respirators or go get the newest vaccine that just came out. I know this is mostly a screaming about my feelings post but I've grown a lot of resentment to non masking abled people who have the privilege to not be terrified of dying from covid, as someone who almost died from covid.
Please think about more than yourself and please think on what you just read. I do not hate you if you if you can't wear proper masks due to sensory stuff, your face not properly fitting due to facial differences, or if you can't get any vaccines because they'll do more harm then good because you're allergic or otherwise. There are other things you can do, donate to immunocompromised or disabled people disproportionately suffering from covid/long covid or other diseases that are being spread or isolate and spread awareness. You can even rebug this post so more people start thinking more about their impact.
