Dungeon Keeper - Chaos Sorcery Strike at Midnight
"Modern" black metal from Germany, there’s some black n’ roll elements and a bit of influence from the 1st wave in Dungeon Keeper’s sound. Initially, I wasn’t expecting to like Chaos Sorcery Strike at Midnight, but the album’s decent for what it is.
Garota/Scrüda - Czerń Północy
A split release from these Polish black metal bands, Garota is up first with three tracks of old school, thrashy stuff and Scrüda finish the record with four songs that have some crust and death metal undertones. Czerń Północy may not be a necessity for everyone’s collection, but I’m glad I have a copy.
Prehistoric War Cult/Dolchstoß - Black Winds of Fire and Steel
Released in support of these bands’ upcoming tour, Black Winds of Fire and Steel is four tracks of primitive, cruel war metal. My preference is for Prehistoric War Cult’s half of the E.P., but Dolchstoß’s sounds good also.
Wretched Fixation - Calamitous Manifestation of Flesh
Abrasive and dissonant, Calamitous Manifestation of Flesh is a cacophonous tempest of raw black metal. Wretched Fixation isn’t full on blackened noise, but there’s a lot of harsh, experimental stuff going on here. Recommended.
