you should download files. it's fun, free, and better for the world than streaming services. "but it's hard" this is a guide. i promise you don't need to be a computerhead. i believe in you.

why should i pirate shit?

• streaming services suck. in every industry, they make their money by financially ruining the people who make the art they profit off of. their algorithms, instead of helping you "discover new art", funnel you into what they want you to watch/listen/play. they're janky & inconsistent & are all missing things. fuck em.
• having your collection of files rules. remember how dads would get excited about their cd or dvd collections? they were right. that shit rules. trust me: knowing your collection represents your tastes, and you're in control of what's in it feels sick as hell.
• it's free! spend your 10 bucks a month buying music from a broke artist on bandcamp instead. easy.
• using media library server software, you can stream your own files to your tv/phone/etc, like streaming services.
• pirate streaming sites also exist but tbh they also suck and I'm not trying to sit through "try not to cum" ads to watch a show in questionable quality with no subtitle options.

hey im the woman who made this post. i haven't rly been using cohost all that much (we hardly knew ye....) but it was nice that every time i logged in i had a handful of notifs sharing this guy around and learning from it :)

i'm gonna save the post's text to host it somewhere else eventually, but i feel like there were a lot of great additions in comments/reblogs that covered a lot of stuff i'd missed. i'll try to include stuff from the comments in whatever my future hosted version of this is but i don't think i can see reblogs of my own post? so if any of you know of either:

• any good places to host something like for future referral (tumblr? self hosted as markdown or something? idk)

Förfallet - Ve

The majority of post-black metal is hipster garbage, but occasionally there are some releases that merit attention. Förfallet’s Ve is one such album, with five dark, atmospheric tracks that blend melody and ferocity. If you’re only going to listen to one post-black metal album in 2024, this should be it.

SXAP - -emptiness

Rhythmic, mechanized drone with some spacey ambient segments, -emptiness is a dense and foreboding album. There’s a certain hypnotic quality to SXAP’s music that draws you in and keeps you entranced, this isn’t the sort of stuff that drifts off into the background. Recommended.

Vér - Demo

Old school death metal with some thrash undertones, Vér is killing it with this demo. You’re going to have a devastating case of whiplash from all the headbanging induced by the tracks here. I can’t wait to hear a full length from these guys.
