I asked some of my closest friends to try calling me Jamie and use they/them pronouns for me. My friends are dears, so they were sweet as hell about it, but I was still nervous to ask them. Will it stick this time, unlike the others?
I've been trans for fifteen years at this point, and mostly happy with my identity as a trans woman. There were two separate points, earlier on, when I tried using a more gender neutral name and they/them instead of the unambiguously feminine name I chose when I first came out. But both times I went back.
What I know now in my heart is that if I was born the way I've wished I was I would still be non-binary. I wouldn't feel anymore like a woman than I do now. It took a lot of transitioning and confidence building to get to this point, but, if I truly feel this way, why would I stop where I wish I could have started?
Yesterday, my girlfriend surprised me with these flowers. I was so excited by the sweetness of the gesture that she had to explicitly point out the color theme to me. They're beautiful, aren't they?
