this ars technica Q&A with Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers reminded me that hexic exists, and I wondered if there was a fangame or clone of it somewhere...

turns out there's an android version called Hexfall, and the music is done by the same person who did the hexic HD soundtrack for xbox 360! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rippalka.hexfall

edit: i had a short go with it and while it's not identical to hexic hd (you can't match three stars of any colour, for example), it is pretty close, and the sound design is close enough to the original too (the soundtrack and sound effects are a large part of why i liked the original game)

and both soundtracks are on bandcamp too!! (edit: sorry, i got mixed up - it's just the hexic hd soundtrack on bandcamp, but the other albums there are really nice too!!)
