It's like WWE for us Euros, only not entirely fake:

  • There may be cuties
  • There may be good songs
  • It's a spectacle
  • We do pre-Eurovision ratings to see whether we can guess who'll win or lose
  • Good for the LGBT community somehow
  • Lol Israel and Australia are somehow Europe
  • A lot of riff material
  • UK has actually started trying in the last few years
  • The only spectator sport I care about

On Thursday, in fact!

I always thought I would be the guy who actually had it together in their twenties...

...and as it turns out, everyone was right and my twenties were a mess just like everyone else's. Go figure.

What did we learn?

  • You will go much further once you gain the humility to learn from any and every source.
  • Go to therapy absolutely as soon as you can afford it.
  • Being methodical is not equivalent to being formulaic. Have a system. Tools enable creativity and progress. Make and use tools. Don't drive a nail with your hand, use a hammer.
  • The people around you are willing to help, so speak up.
  • Social media platforms can facilitate relationships if used intentionally for that purpose. Just being online along with your friends, does not count as participating in a relationship with your friends. Real relationships take 1-on-1 mutual effort and attention. Tend to them individually. Nurture them individually. Speak up when you feel neglected.
  • If it takes less than two minutes, do it right now while you notice it.
  • Your brain should be used for solving problems, not storing problems. Don't burn your limited energy just remembering everything going on. Organize it outside of your brain to let your brain do its job of thinking creatively and figuring things out.
  • Just because you understand it doesn't mean you can do it. You still have to learn to do it, actually. The gap between understanding and doing is filled by intentional practice.
  • Bad habits don't have simple antidotes. It's a part of you that has grown over time; to change the habit, you must grow the new one over time.
  • On that note: you are always training something. Even and especially the things you do unintentionally or automatically--those are patterns, and they get reinforced whenever you do them. Do you actually want those thoughts / that reaction / that behavior? If you don't, then retrain yourself. (This is one of those things that's simple, but not easy.)
  • Learn what irritates you. Respect the fact that it irritates you, and come up with a way to care for yourself. Don't just suffer through a rock in your shoe, dump it out.
  • People less experienced than you are on their own journey. People more experienced than you are on their own journey. You are on your own journey.
  • You do not have to live in the same story forever. You are free at any time to change the story you tell yourself about your life, if you wish. To change the rules by which you engage with the world, if you wish. To live differently, if you choose. If you are suffering, there is nothing honorable in being loyal to your suffering.

Hope that helps!

Happy 30th to me!
