As I continue to see news stories in my RSS feeds about people making AI-specific browsers and applying AI to mundane tasks like describing products, I've come to realize that it's just another instance of people having CEO Brain.
It's something you see all over media coverage of tech stuff, and also in discussions around new technology in general. People always think about these things from the perspective of like... the person in charge of one of these companies. Worrying about earnings and impressing investors and making sure this venture is a success and whatnot.
Like, with AI: wow this will make this work so much easier and more efficient! Technological progress is great!
Who benefits from that efficiency? In this case, it's neither workers nor the general public. We get worse products, and workers lose their jobs. CEOs don't care about either of those things. Industry consolidation is such that there are no alternatives if people don't like it, and every company starts doing AI shit on a vast scale.
It's like how people misunderstand the Luddites. Technological progress itself isn't the problem, it's how it ends up being applied within our society.
