Currently dealing with being too chronically ill to reliably cope with things like "going outside" or "doing things" by playing some of the games I unaccountably have in my Steam library.
Attempting to play.
On my elderly desktop. On Linux. On a cutting-edge Ubuntu install which runs inexplicably dogshit slow at the best of times.
Also I'm very bad at video games.
Doom 3! I apparently own Doom 3. It has a native port, so that's nice, it runs at frames per second rather than seconds per frame that way. It lasted, ooh, about three jump-scares and I nuked it. (I entirely predicted as much. I do not know why I own Doom 3.)
The isometric Shadowruns seem to run acceptably, though the writing gets a bit, y'know..."the rhythm of the city beat like a third-rate noir pastiche hitting you over the head with the point. Violent. Violent like a criminal, the criminal I now was." (Also, is the framing device for all of them "haha your only family/friend got fridged, what's up with that? No, seriously, what's up with that, we're doing to dole out INVESTIGATE WHAT'S UP WITH THAT goals for the next several hours"?)
A bunch of stuff doesn't run at a usable frame rate. Including Deus Ex 3, which clocks near double-digit seconds per frame. I wouldn't think twice about it, but...I have played it before. On linux. On this hardware, if not even slightly older. I am in no way kidding when I say I don't know what they've done to fuck up this distro, but they have definitely fucked something.
