#FICSion

hey! i released an original mystery story using my original ttrpg system, FICSion on my itch.io! you can purchase the mystery for $5 here, or you can pick up FICSion for free or pay what you want here!

i've worked really hard to put this together and make an intelligible story for someone else to pick up, but also be compatible with any other kind of rpg system or fantasy setting you want to use to run it. this story is arguably the reason that FICSion exists at all since i wanted to tell this story but no other ttrpg system suited how it was written.

please give it a look if it at all interests you!

Introducing FICSion! FICSion is a narrative-focused, episodic mystery roleplaying game where you build a character to play but use your own deductive skills to solve the mystery. It's available right now as a pay-what you want pdf document on my itch.io! If you'd like a physical copy, I have those available in my ko-fi store!

I love detective and mystery fiction, but I was having trouble finding a ttrpg system that worked with how I like to write mysteries, so I made my own! I love Sherlock Holmes Stories, Agatha Christie novels, but also some of the many Scooby-Doo tv shows. FICSion tries to embody the episodic nature of those narratives. I want FICSion to be a game you can pick up for a single game, for multiple games, or for entire mysterious campaigns if you want to!

I was tired of rolling dice to find important information. I was tired of trying to fit combat mechanics to fit a story where you talk to people to learn clues. FICSion is a game built on the idea that if you think something is important, you should be able to investigate it, unimpeded by hard-coded mechanics.

FICSion uses a variable dice vs. variable target system for it’s rolling mechanics, using 1d4, 1d6, and 1d8 as the dice! Both the player(s) and GM roll against each other as contested rolls whenever a player wants to complete a task with a level of risk. You probably have d4s, d6s, and d8s you rarely use, and here’s a chance to use them! the rolling mechanics are meant to encourage cooperation, thinking creatively, and using every tool you can!

I'm in the process of formatting the original story I made FICSion for as a playable mystery module for other people to use, however I firmly believe that if you have any type of mystery story written, you can use FICSion to play it with your friends!
