Seemed inevitable after the Activision sale and COD coming to Game Pass, but here we are. Full article below the break.
#Game Pass
User bigsocrates is starting a new series on Giant Bomb wherein they look at the smaller titles on Game Pass and starts things off with Bramble: The Mountain King!
Have any of you played this side scrolling horror game from Dimfrost Studio?
I gave Still Wakes the Deep a try... eh.
98% of the game is egregious levels of yellow paint sign posting, "flash the button to avoid the fail state", and following strictly linear paths. Nothing you do has agency or feels satisfying.
The other 2% are "run from creature" sections. The problem is that the first time this happens they don't teach you the game logic or give you an environment to learn in. So I just sorta kept moving where I thought was forward, didn't die, and then went back to the other 98%.
I never forgave The Chinese Room for how slow the walking speed is in Everyone's Gone to the Rapture, but this one worked pretty well as a tense, mechanics lite horror game for my wife to sit and watch me navigate.
You've got some fun Scottish performances here (my wife whose lived here her whole life was impressed and told me the rarer words in use as they came up) with a lot of accessibility options for the subtitles to make sure you know what the heck everyone's saying.
You get an informative tour of an oil rig while avoiding the giant bacon strips and monsters.
Haters of yellow paint beware.
Oh also should probably mention that the developers have mostly been replaced by now after a buyout? I don't know how it worked but I'm thinking this started with the original crew and finished by the new.
credits like 'idea originally conceived by -Founder of Chinese Room-' kinda reminded me.
