Livin' that breaker life.
It's gotten a bit better since release. I'm finding I can get away with safely dismantling just about every ship, meaning it's (mostly) user error - occasionally, it's the fast-and-loose hit detection on the Stinger blowing up something it wasn't even close to touching.
Wish to fuck I'd chosen a Casual career tho. Sucks having my flow interrupted by that damn shift timer.
I like Hardspace Shipbreaker a lot after finally starting it and it captures the pleasure of certain kinds of physical work beautifully
Now why is it weirdly relaxing? Well one of the first things that happens is the corporation murders you and forces you into indentured servitude. This is not very relaxing. Nor is having to buy your own oxygen if the ship you're salvaging doesn't have O2 canisters. But the work itself of pulling apart a ship is great
So in this sense the game captures the horrors of capitalism perfectly. The work has some degree of danger inherent to it, but it would be less without corporate greed. All of the worst parts of the experience (by design) are the things the corporation bolts onto the job as well as your massive amount of debt
People want to do things. People like doing things. But jobs are jobs and capitalism makes the job part of jobs millions of times worse
