i often mock the trend of viewing younger demographic media with the demands of an adult perspective but that doesn't mean blind support of the opposite. im currently watching House Of Cards (on recommendation from my uncle) and despite having all the powerhouse actors, subject matter and complexities thereof necessary for appeal, it might be the most boring show i've ever watched. i can't believe one of the first television series predicated on the "freedom" of streaming still limits itself to an "A-plot, B-plot" structure right out of 90s cable. i'd actually rather watch Bluey. every review ive read praises House Of Cards for its "bingeworthy" material and i can see why, the only way to get anything interesting out of it is to stuff the whole season down your throat.
something is horribly wrong if the traditionally aired Game Of Thrones is a more engaging political drama than one without those restrictions and centred on the white house.
the first half of season one can be described as "Kevin Spacey Acts Smug And Wins" while the second half finally topples over the dominoes it was painstakingly setting up. i sat there thinking "alright okay, the show's awake it's started" but no, season 2 violently resets the status quo and we're back to the same setup. im not going to sleep through 6 hours of slow rube goldberg-lite writing just to get 2 hours of it crashing down again.
these are the seasons people like. sorry uncle, thumbs down.
