#Queer Topics

...still up way past when I should be asleep haha. Here's why:

Word on the street Furaffinity.net may be in the midst of an ABDL purge. The story goes that admin/moderator Chase may be in the process of "cleaning" the website for a potential buyer.

Patreon has done this exact pattern earlier this year, purging ABDL and then gradually turning up the heat on adult artwork of various genres (chiefly any non-human genitals). Furaffinity has had policy change lunges based on its financial and hosting status repeatedly in its long history, so it's safe to say that the site could be in hot water and desperate to stay afloat.

This isn't confirmed, odds are good it's BS, but the claim and people involved are consistent with the ambiguous, extremely unfortunate situation Furaffinity has been in since Dragoneer's passing. The site's present admin doesn't know its 2023 Revenue and Tax Liability, not helped by its current lead Sciggles being in hospital for an unrelated health emergency.

The playbook I always recommend goes like this: Archive your favorite things, network with who you can, and Decentralize your Online Alias (set up accounts everywhere you think would be decent).

Nowhere is by us. Nowhere is for us.

Ever since the Summer of 2023 when my work titled That's Obscene! dropped, I've been keenly focused on Queer Erasure due to Monetary Deplatforming. If you've read anything else I've written on the topic (boy do I have a lot, not all of it particularly good) you know where this conversation is going. For the rest, if you missed the news: Cohost is Dead, the Funeral is probably the eve of September 30th when we all try to squirt one last post out before it enters its Read-Only State.

The financials from this last full calendar make me skeptical of even that target, knowing full well that the site's hosting could be paid on a monthly basis, but also might not have been. It'd have been ridiculous to pull the plug without this kind of 'okay well here's some paper, make your copies' warning, but we knew damn well in March and April of this year that things were going this way. The Summer brought about miracles, but those miracles didn't make up the funding shortfalls, not by a long shot, and bad PR from the way Cohost's operation has been run has ultimately been a decisive factor. I stopped paying for Cohost+ last year due to financial deficits, but naturally, others cancelled due to bad tastes in the mouth.

Here is a link that takes you to my Link Tree.

I also have my general furry fandom community organized into a Discord where I mostly bitch about my life and sometimes post a drawing of a penis. You may send me an email to my listed address (accessible through that Link Tree listing) if you would like an invitation to my Discord server.

I'd also like to suggest that people who have enjoyed my written content on @REP-Resent please consider keeping in touch. You can find me on Discord as RunawayDanish, look for the spooky blue dinosaur. I'd recommend you send me an email first.

For those unaware of the news, you can skim this article by The Guardian (click me) for a start to your own understanding. I have a lot of thoughts that I don't have time to jot out today, but here's a quick thing I jotted up for nerds on my Discord:

Brazilian queers particularly furry artists are scrambling to find their footing in Bluesky and other alternatives, and based on the amount of blood in the water, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission might be taking another bloody chunk out of Elon's Nazi Parlor very soon.

Brazil's reasoning for the ban is following failure of Twitter to defend itself in court, as the Brazilian Supreme Court was waiting for a legal reply to a pending action. Twitter has of course facilitated misinformation and extremist organizations which irked the relatively-speaking still fascistic Brazillian state aparatus. You can read the Guardian's coverage which breaks that information down with specific claims and specific names.

Some Geopolitical context:

  • Brazil is part of BRICs (wikipedia's entry on it, click here), which effectively is the 'we'll have our own Global Economy with Hookers and Blackjack' of key economic unions.
  • You'll recognize some highlights, such as: Brazil, Russia, Iran, India, China, the UAE, South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia. These guys could be called at best the losers of the Western-Dominated global economic institution established with the fall of the Soviet Union.
  • BRICs is not responsible for the Twitter Situation, but you should be considering the context of the global economic alignment of ideologically adjacent entities such as the famously pro-democracy Russia and China. (That is a Sarchasm, don't fall in)
  • Twitter's situation in Brazil is what happens when you fuck around as a Billionaire in a world full of geopolitical entities which have sources of power you can't just pay off.

This is your reminder to Decentralize your Online Alias, TODAY.

Governments like Brazil do not have the best track record of giving much of a shit about where it's queers hang out, and for the record Elon Musk doesn't care about us either. I know that doesn't need to be said for the average Cohoster, but it has to be stated.

I've had some tech friends walk me through what's going on. I still don't understand it. Important shit first, explanation behind the break:

FURAFFINITY.NET IS COMPROMISED, DO NOT LOG INTO OR NAVIGATE TO FURAFFINITY OR THE "FURAFFINITY STORE".

ALSO, FURAFFINITY'S TWITTER IS COMPROMISED AND DISABLED REPLIES, DELETED POSTS DOCUMENTING THE HACK.

Okay, details below.
