#Snack Canary Media Log

  • Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon (Anime). Yep. Still good. Yippee! Now the ending is here. It's nice.
  • Metallic Rouge (Anime). The animation, character designs, and music are really good here. But the plot is kinda thin and lacking, especially in episode one. Hopefully it gets better as things go on. But the rest of it is strong enough to carry it anyways.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen (Anime). Halfway through season 2 and it's pretty fun. Sometimes it can be lacking or disappointing, story wise, but everything else carries it. The characters are interesting to the point where it's frustrating when they get sidelened, and the action is a fireworks factory. You can't argue with a fireworks factory of action. Probably not my favorite shonen thing, but it's a satisfying, surprising, and sometimes frustrating ride. It's understandably popular for a reason.
  • Blue Exorcist (Anime Season 3). They finally got to the Illuminati arc! I've been waiting for this! I looks nice... But I'll wait longer and binge it or something. Nice to see it happen though.
  • The Witch and the Beast(Anime). A Really lacking adaptation of a really good manga. Serviceable at best, but maybe things will improve in later episodes (again, but with more desperation this time.)
  • Baldur's Gate 3. I got it as a gift?? Neat. Now begins a thousand hours of slow, immaculate choice paralysis. It's good. Hard to believe that this finally came out after those initial previews all those years ago. And that it runs decent on the Steam Deck. Just don't think too much about the way hair looks sometimes. It's fine. It really does run surprisingly great otherwise.
  • Marvel's Midnight Suns (the game). Probably the most solid comic book based game in a long while. (Or at least one that isn't Spider-Man or Injustice, I guess.) Obviously the battles are a light XCOM based thing, but more forgiving and with a little deck building. But also you spend a lot of downtime time in a hub area, having your Original Character interact with these comic book characters. Again, it's probably the most solid super hero comic based games in a while. At least as far as AAA games goes. It helps that it's not trying to be specifically an Avengers branded experience, and that it's not trying so hard to emulate the movies... Except Tony Stark. His voice actors will forever have to sound like RDJ, even if it's more distracting than anything.
  • Granblue Fantasy: Relink (Demo). Also hard to believe that it's finally here. Big money anime fantasy action RPG with some Monster Hunter DNA. It's solid, but will probably be slept on, especially outside of Japan. But either way, I'm lad that this and GBVS are things, and that Cygames is trying so hard with them.
  • Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Demo). A really solid 2D action game. Classic Prince of Persia isSo Back. And it's Metroid Dread (lock) flavored. I'm here for it. And thankfully it's about as solid as I was hoping. It's simply good. For the demo, I accidentally sped my way to the boss room early, ending the experience before I got the most out of it. Which was funny. No clue if there's more to it, but the game should be out now or soon enough, so I'll save my energy for the full release. I've been waiting for another decent Metroidvania or whatever you wanna argue the genre should be called. Some kinda action explorer... Yeah, no answer is really satisfying.

  • Pseudoregalia is still super good, and super fun! Unlocking and using the game's movement options is so incredibly satisfying. This game is criminally cheap for something so fun. It's like if Castlevania 64 was more like Mario 64. Like those games they had an illegitimate baby. That grew up to be hella thicc.

  • Lunacid. Also fun to explore. Obviously inspired by older FromSoft games, namely Shadow Tower and Kings Field. It's extremely good and filled with delightful surprises and great music. Of course, it can also be fascinatingly terrifying. It comes with the territory.

  • Eastshade. Like Oblivion, but you mostly just paint pictures, solve the occasional puzzle, and run errands instead. The painting is more like taking a screenshot with a filter in exchange for resources, but I'm not complaining. And I can't stress enough just how much this feels like a strange, indie copy of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, but with little - to no violence. That's not a bad thing, it's fun to explore and meet it's cast of animal folks that were clearly not designed by furries (I'm pretty sure. Just look at them). Also kinda buggy sometimes, ironically like those Bethesda games before it. But only just a little.

  • Pompo the Cinephile. An incredibly entertaining and engrossing anime film. Criminally slept on. I wanna shout from the rooftops about the thing! It kinda romanticizes suffering and isolation a bit, but it makes up for it by absolutely loving movies, making movies, and following your heart a lot more. So good and so well done that it might just be one of my favorite movies out there.

  • Nope (2022). Also pretty good! No surprise. Also kind of about movies, fame, and spectacle. It's full of fun and interesting things to appreciate and linger on, but just the story itself is pretty entertaining. Obviously inspired by Spielberg movies and the like. Also featuring a cool old dude. Hell yeah.

  • Tokyo Godfathers (Rewatch). Yeah that's still super good. I'll always love the way the movie cand briefly lean into other styles and genres in such a seamless way, especially when it comes to the characters and their varied expressions. And also what a damn fine story. Also: the GKIDS redub is absolutely solid and very, very, much appreciated.

Puss in Boots 2, I made a brief post about that a few days back. It's solid. It looks good. It's fun. It Is Good.

Imma go kin Kitty Softpaws. Thanks DreamWorks.

But aside from that, I also gotta mention that Pompo the Cinephile's Blu-ray menu is on some Galax Brain shit. That and one other surprise really makes that movie a Special Experience. Damn. Give those people a raise. And then some.
