Late to the TGA talk but award shows have always been corporate circle-backpat ceremonies to me, and I hate how they further the existing toxicity of gamer culture, having seen friends get really sweaty about them.
Plus, as someone who mainly plays deep-cut low-to-mid-budget games like shmups ("What's a shmup? Oh you mean those impossible bullet hell games"), arcade games old and new (which haven't been "valid" as games since the 80s or so), and mobile rhythm games (Westerner repellant), I don't expect to see my favorites ever be nominated, except for post-classic Monster Hunter.
If something in the vein of Arcaea or Crimzon Clover were to actually be nominated, I'd probably assume I've ended up in a different timeline and need to get back to my own lmao
