Chocolatier: Lindt
Flavor: Classic Recipe Milk Chocolate
What I Paid: $4.89

Ya know, I've reviewed a lot of bars from Lindt's (theoretically) gourmet "Excellence" line of chocolate bars, but I don't think I've tried any bars from their more homey "Classic Recipe" collection. Let's change that!

Today's bar is a 31% cocoa milk chocolate. When I first tasted it, I was immediately reminded of the flavor of Whoppers candy. Turns out there is a reason for this! Despite not being noted anywhere in the marketing, this bar is flavored with malt powder - the signature ingredient of the aforementioned Whoppers!

The chocolate of this bar is very sugary and milky with a velvety smooth melt and nice notes of vanilla and clean cocoa. Despite the deceptive marketing - malt powder isn't exactly in any "classic" milk chocolate recipes that I know of - I'm actually glad it's in this bar. The nutty toastiness of the malt powder adds some depth of flavor to the chocolate and it keeps the bar from being too sweet.

But do I like it? I think it's solid but not amazing. While I've definitely had better milk chocolates, I've also had a lot worst. In the end, if you like the flavor of Whoppers, you're probably gonna like this bar! It basically is a Whooper that is creamy instead of crunchy. But if you don't like malted milk flavor, you're gonna need to look elsewhere.
