There's a bit from a podcast I heard a few years ago where a wife is talking about baking soda in the fridge, how it's just been in the fridge forever and nobody remembers to replace it and does it really do anything. Her husband has to stop her and note that, diligently, every few months he replaces the baking soda and it's why the fridge doesn't smell when they let some meat spoil or whatever.
A few times a year this kind of thing happens to me, my wife will say something like "and who knows the last time that was done" and I have to tell her that I've been doing it regularly for years. Every time I think about the baking soda, and I always wonder what baking soda I've been missing that other people do.
