This was quite the pleasant surprise. Though it never quite rises above the level of being a fan-service game for existing Japanese players of the Alice Gear Aegis mobile game, Concerto of Simulatrix is a capable repurposing of those assets for a single-player title, and even if you're not into AGS as a specific brand, there's plenty of Shimada Fumikane mecha musume goodness to enjoy.
Like a lot of licensed games of the PS3 and PS4 era, it's an arena fighter, kind of a Baby's First Gundam VS or Virtual On, with the auto lock-on and the many homing weapons.

Where it falls a bit short for me is as a gateway to turn generic mecha musume enjoyers into AGS enthusiasts. Even Azur Lane Crosswave, an equally transparent fan service title for another mobile game (which also happens to be mecha musume-adjacent), manages to do something of a better job of contextualizing the characters and their relationships. Here you've gotta make do with the individual character profiles and some almost Souls-level of parsing item descriptions for crumbs of lore.

Also the "gyaruboss" character is a real hoot. She and all the adult characters in the cast steal the show from the genki up-and-comers.
