#also navigation gestures are bad UX design I will die on this hill

was finally forced to change phones and I am loving the fact that the newer phone is worse than the old one in every way, but I can't keep using the old one because there's no way to fix it, no spare parts, no technical support, nothing at all

Google Pixel 3A (no longer available anywhere):

  • fingerprint reader on the back that let me unlock my phone and check notifications in a comfortable, non-intrusive way that didn't make my fingers hurt. Also it was recessed, so I could feel where the reader was
  • headphone jack
  • pretty purple color
  • smaller, would fit in my pocket
  • squeeze for Google Assistant which allowed me to set timers and reminders without looking at my phone
  • Still worked perfectly except the camera stopped focusing, which fucked with a good chunk of my work (can't "scan" and digitize text anymore). Zero support from Google because the phone is older than 3 years, so...

Google Pixel 6A:

  • fingerprint reader on the screen, no tactile feedback, needs me to bend my thumb in an uncomfortable way
  • no headphone jack
  • boring black color
  • marginally larger for no reason because they still removed the fingerprint doodad and the headphone jack so what the fuck did you need the space for
  • need to either unlock to use GA or allow it to listen to me all of the time, which, no.
  • also newer Android changed a bunch of the navigation gestures and it's annoying, especially because I can't go from "home" to "open apps", I have to open another app, then do the gesture, then wait until recent ones pop up... why
