This is a really nifty video and goes into a whole lot of cool things about Virginia Tech's helmet safety rating program (my helmet i picked up from the local bike shop last year after the wreck got some pretty high marks, a Bontrager Solstice Mips),

but at the end it takes a big veering turn into a part of the modern day hellworld that has me. hm.

counterfeit bicycle helmets

"Oh, this such-and-such item from this big brand sells for 300 dollars, i wonder if we can copycat it for pennies on the dollar and sell it on [large online retailer] for the big bucks."

Said item could literally be the difference between life and death for someone on a bicycle, and here these fuckers are, making a knockoff that at best looks like the genuine article and confers absolutely none of the safety and work that went into the helmet to make it cost 300 dollars

there is not enough shame for the wicked in this world

if you bought your helmet at a local bike shop you're fine, most of them have dealer agreements with one brand or another that means they get the genuine article in. My local's a trek dealer, that's why i've got a bontrager helmet.
