It's canon that Lonely Old Dear is Patches mother. Playing as Patches, there's a tad of sadness the beginning of the game has her ostracizing from her son.

As a new player, the huntsmen minions and scourge beasts were the most overwhelming enemies early game. I took advantage of that one doorway before Cleric beast.
