Did you know Groundhog Day is based on the German tradition of marking Candlemas on Dachstag (Badger Day)? The groundhog is a bit of a ripoff.
Should the badger not see its shadow, spring arrives early, that much remains the same... So a badger emerging from its den on a cloudy February 2nd is a proper herald of light, indeed.
