I had a concept in mind for months for my third time participating in the O2A2 (only one of any asset) visual novel jam, but then I just couldn't make it work when I actually tried to write it, which made me learn once again that not every idea works in a more concrete form and that what you enjoy reading and what you can write don't always overlap very well.
Since I still really wanted to make something for the jam, I thought and brainstormed a lot about how I could use some similar ideas. I ended up reading wiki pages on various folk and fairy tales and (as I often do) went back to Tam Lin, my favourite folk ballad. Half a Wreath of Roses ended up as something of a gay retelling of Tam Lin where I scrambled the character roles and events around somewhat. If you know Tam Lin, it might be an interesting experience to see where you recognize the elements from it and what sorts of things I added and made up. And if you don't, reading the ballad afterwards might put a few things into a different context :D
