There is something about a shadowbox that sparks a nameless feeling in my spirit. Art is ancestral. The ritual of creation opens a channel to the Bigger Thing. Art is one of my main forms of medicine work, and there's an immense amount of magic in a shadowbox. I've only been making visual art for about 4 years, and in that time I've made several shadowboxes. Each one holds so much meaning and prayer. Recently, the idea came to me to incorporate them into my jewelry work. I alter and reinforce matchboxes and then decorate them. It's very fucking cool because having both the case and the tray to communicate ideas opens up endless storytelling potential. Currently I'm attempting to make my way thru interpreting the major arcana of the traditional tarot deck.
