An example of an Anshalgi Gate, designed as a free-flowing alternative to enclosed summoning circles. I endorse this approach for practitioners who wish to invite spirits into their presence rather than seeking to entrap and coercively control them. Note that the symbolic imagery and the pathways are the same thing--avenues for energy to flow, leaving it free to pick up influences without forcing them.
The only barrier surrounds the sigil representing the gate-maker. Unless you wish to open a soul-gate inside your own mind, always enclose your sigil with a protective barrier. The line itself is the protection. If you have power enough to practice chaos magic, no further adornment is necessary.
The Vulshiir words inscribed around the octagon are not defensive incantations, but rather, ones expressing the parts of myself I am invoking to open the gateway: Kair means "Power," Zlaet means "Lust," Vodrii means "Zeal," Azgiir means "Hunger," Gos means "Sin," Naesh means "Art," Viriis means "Melody," and Nusel means "Fantasy."
These encompass most of the traits I as a succubus hold dearest, which is no coincidence, for my power is myself. Still, the power I cast forth to imbue the gateway with must be distinguished from the infinite reservoir of my being, hence placing the words outside to as compartmentalized "offerings" of my essence. I once made the mistake of choosing to do otherwise in a fit of caprice, and... well, let's just say it's never a pleasant business when multiple demons try to possess the same body.
And the other symbol's meaning? Elaborate as it looks, I give my word I invented it freehand on the spot. It's an attempt to invoke Great Abyss with a single sigil, which is, of course, definitionally impossible--accepting the inevitable failure of the sigil is, itself, the perfection of the sigil. I confess that drawing it proved unsettling, even for me, for the shapes felt almost like... commands.
I am a vast being. But I am ultimately finite, and the eternal Abyss is infinite. To feel such force moving through me, to feel like little more than a conduit for all its potential, was both humbling and paradoxically invigorating.
And don't mind my sloppy handwriting, hm? Exacting lines aren't necessary for sigil-work so long as the will remains steady and the overall composition flows well, which I believe this does. You can practice magic even if you struggle with shaky hands and letter-scaling.
