Gioele Amaro // Waiting, 2024 // ink and varnish on canvas
i always meant to do this since joining this site, but it kinda slipped my attention. now though, in the last week of cohost, i'd at least like to introduce you all to my finished comic, catlamp.
if you haven't heard, catlamp is about a cat who wakes up in a world of total darkness, other than a talking lamp who they discover nearby. they set out on an adventure together in hopes of finding the sun.
it's my first and (for now!) only comic to date; it's 192 pages divided into 13 chapters, and ran from november 21st, 2018 to january 1st, 2022. it was born from years of the setting existing only in my head, and sometimes being bounced off the mind of one of my oldest friends. its probably the closest thing i've ever had to a headworld; no other story has been as meaningful to me to actually build a project around. its narratively and visually surreal, based on my experiences with psychosis, trauma, and growing up. it features the growth of a friendship in a cold and confusing world.
the art is A Bit Dated, stylistically and in terms of my actual skill with illustration and paneling, but i read back on some pages recently and honestly am still happy with it, overall. it's my weird, heartfelt story about a couple of Little Guys and i figured the furries and sillies on cohost might like to check it out.
you can read it on comicfury here! i really, really love getting thoughtful comments as well so don't hold back if something strikes you. thanks cohost
