the zine for august 2023 is called « FLOW VELOCITY », a 16-page collage booklet bound with velvety-soft vintage yarn, made as a facsimile of a small artist book that i made early in august.

generally, i make each zine as... well, a zine. i design the project that way, and the work for it is tailored to the page size i've decided on. however, i tried something new this month -- i made the zine first as a small, highly-textured 16-page artist book, with the idea that i'd then adapt it to a zine format as a sort of reproduction, binding it in a similar way. i scanned each page prior to binding, then punched the holes and bound the book with a slip-knot method and a bit of vintage silk thread i found in vienna last winter.

i didn't think too much about the form of the zine version of the project while i was working, as i wanted to try thinking about it as a book-object first and less about the following reproducible edition. this was a really fun way to work! in the end, i tried to reproduce the binding in spirit -- the zine can lay flat like the book, and though the binding is handled a little differently, it is a similar size and 'feel' to the original.

extras this month include a new postcard design and a reprint of my first collage zine from 2020, « YOU ». i've had that one out of circulation for quite awhile, and thought it would be fun to bring it back a little over three years after i first made it (it predates the monthly zine project)!
