You are Barbra Yun. You are in an elevator. Theo in marketing requested you specifically to help with some kind of tech problem. Why? You're in HR. Yeah sure, this is better than hunting, no risk of dismemberment, and 8A cleared out marketing earlier today. But still, why you?
It's not like the company doesn't have an IT department. It does, you've been to IT and met two of the people that work in it. That's why you were hired, IT work. You thought this would be some easy corporate job doing HTML and server maintenance. But no, someone along the chain decided you should be in HR. Was it Gina? Was she the reason you were hired? No, probably not. Pretty sure Gina mentioned that the Management lady handles hiring. That Management lady sucks. What does she even do?
Legitimately, what is this company? What do they do here? There's a marketing department, a PR department, IT, research, and a storage warehouse... but you never figured out what they actually do. Since you started, you've only ever had to actually handle HR-type stuff like... three times. Plus, Gina is the least "HR" type girl to be put in charge of HR! And the fact that she is younger than you confuses you to no end.
The elevator's air is stuffy and thick, probably some kind of mold in the elevator shaft that nobody ever cleans. It's always been like this, ever since you were hired. The job listing you responded to almost two years ago was super vague. Just a "corporate office looking for IT specialist, pays well" type listing. And why does it feel like this company is from the 90s? Old computers, old tech, these stupid outfits. It's 2023, wearing this uniform makes you feel like an old woman. You're 29, not 60.
The elevator bounces and squeaks as you think about this company. Nothing makes sense, the people here don't make sense. At least some people seem normal. Everyone in HR is normal, some other people are as well. This company is weird. Whatever Theo needs will hopefully be quick.
