#7 from the ask meme: what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?

I think the only time in my life I've been to a big proper aquarium is a few years ago when I went to the one in atlanta where I was very excited to see the whale shark!

at little aquariums I really like to see jellyfish, especially moon jellies

also I have never seen them before (outside of animal crossing) but I really want to see these guys

ok idk if it's a faux pas to turn a question back around so soon but what have you cooked recently that you're enjoying? :3

I really wish I had more answers to this! I'm coming down off a super busy few months of my life so cooking has been something I've kind of been doing out of necessity rather than for enjoyment lately. this means I've been relying a lot on canned or frozen things to bring quick meals together. I also have definitely scaled back my cooking after moving into a small place with a tiny kitchen. hoping to get back into it though!

that said I can share the "recipe" I made tonight which is a low effort meal we've been enjoying lately

"crispy chicken salad" (I just named this)

  • salad greens
  • frozen breaded chicken tenders from trader joes (basically big chicken nugs) cut into bite sized pieces after baking
  • sliced avocado
  • sliced red onion
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • buttermilk ranch dressing

in the summer I also love to make mul naengmyeon (korean cold noodle soup) from kits which you can buy at h mart and add a boiled egg, cucumber, and korean pear. on a super hot day this is one of my favorite dinners!

What was it like doing grad school as a grown up? Was it weird being in classes with all the baby grad students?

I thought about this one for a little bit! the cohort of my masters program has a mix of students because it's designed to support full-time or part-time (all classes are held in the evening), so there's a good number of people who are already working in addition to people who came straight from undergrad. while I wasn't the oldest person in the cohort I would say I was definitely older than average.

this was the first time in my life that I realized I was transitioning out of being kind of "the youngest adult demographic" and hearing people say things like "older people, you know people [born years after me]". it also gave me an opportunity to reflect on how I had grown up since my early 20s and the experience I had to bring to the table and kind of embrace that. but it also made me appreciate that I had a lot to learn from people younger than me and their perspectives and made me realize that I want to work to stay humble and open minded.

this wasn't exactly part of the question but a lot of the younger students in my cohort were also international students and I think I learned a lot from having conversations with a not totally US-centric perspective all the time

@kyn asked:

whats ur favorite flavor/toppings of milk tea?

I pretty consistently order some combination of:

  • oolong tea
  • boba (just the original tapioca kind)
  • cheese foam

I also love jasmine and winter melon. I feel like I should branch out more with toppings! I did try rose jelly recently and I would definitely get that again.
