Wait a minute-
(spoiler below the RM)
while i was researching planet of the bass influences, as one does on a sunday night, i discovered Dr Bombay, a recording name for Jonny Jakobsen. i'll just copy this profile:
Jonny first recorded as faux-country singer Johnny Moonshine. In an attempt to find even more irritating forms of music he transformed himself into Eurodance artist Dr. Bombay the fake Indian taxi driver charting with such singles as "Rice and Curry" and "SOS (The Tiger Took My Family)". The Indian government found this caricature so offensive they considered legal measures later dropping the matter when lawyers advised them that you can't sue someone for being annoying. Since then Jakobsen has found additional success recording as the faux-Scottish Dr. MacDoo and the faux-Mexican Carlito.
idk about "success" but from the video above i don't think he even really understands what cultures he's trying to mock here. to me, it's SO absolute nonsense it feels like it's just spent the last two decades warping into a mockery of itself. but the thing that really caught my attention was that IT wAS FEATURED IN BEATMANIA IIDX 2ND & 3RD STyLE?????
i haven't played IIDX in a While, fuck. but this song wormed its way into my head and baby it ain't ever coming out. it's literally such an earworm. why can't I be a goofy ninja girl moonighting as a part-time service worker? kinda nbphobic tbh. damn you, ska music!!!
It's for the event Mod Jam Adoptables.
I tried to recreate the IIDX music video in this chart, so I hand drew all the sprites.
