HEY GUYS. sorry this post escaped containment a few weeks ago. i pulled it back because it wasn't finished and i didn't want to be like, live editing it. anyway, it is now 99% done, and i'm moving in the next few days, so i'm choosing to post it now. because fuck it! it's been long enough. this was all done in the months leading up to dwarf fortress releasing on steam so unfortunately it has old style graphics, but it's not a huge deal.
for the sake of not making people read a very long post in my usual typing style, i type like a normal person in this one. it may also feature slight embellishment, because i think emergent narratives are fun, and also some of the entries would be really bland if i didn't. it kind of lacks a "concluding" paragraph, but i think i might go back and work on that later. editor's notes are in italic.
thanks for being patient with me and i hope you guys enjoy reading. happy holidays.
Overview
Here you can see a map of Boysnack in the year 250. Founded in 119 by the Dear Society, it has passed through the hands of several countries, including a long stint as a city of the Door of Weaknesses, a necromancer nation. It is currently self-governed to an extent, though some residents have deemed the Sweet League, its governing body, untrustworthy due to embezzling scandals in the past.
Boysnack is notable for its population of night's eyes, scaly dwarf-sized humanoids with large, close set black scales. The night's eyes escaped from their creator, Iden Inkyore, and traveled far afield to escape his influence. Most of the rest of the population consists of elves and humans, with a few dwarves mixed in.
The town is bisected by a stream named Nestraced.
Timeline
- 119 — Boysnack is founded by the Dear Society of the Delightful Confederation. It has 20 residents: 18 humans and 2 elves.
- 120 — The residents of Boysnack somehow construct 15 bridges, a market and a tavern in the span of about a month. They are then all immediately murdered by zombie goblins from the neighboring necromancer civilization, the Ages of Springing. The Ages of Springing installs a new government to rule Boysnack, but not long after, the Door of Weaknesses defeats them. The new ruler is the dwarf Rovod Goldenbow, ruling member of the Theater of Bones. Another necromancer named Uvash Cloisteredcrimson begins horrible experiments in the village, creating three-eyed monsters that eventually came to be known as “Uvash’s demons”.
- 121-124 — These years pass in relative peace as more people move to Boysnack, most of them necromancers. During this time, the new residents of Boysnack constructed 18 bridges to its neighboring towns.
- 125 — The cyclops Ener Maroonivy the Bronze Times comes to Boysnack and kills 3 people.
- 126 - 140 — Years of relative calm, marked by more espionage than outright conflict as various necromancers struggle for power within Boysnack. During this time, Uvash Cloisteredcrimson and Lekla Neutralpeaches bought houses in the village.
- 141 — Giant dingoes attack in early summer, slaying and eating 2 elves as well as several livestock animals. The four vicious dingoes came to be known as Renownedroasts, Tickgrooved, Spundeviance and Combinedmoistness.
- 146 — Stukos Dimpledlashed becomes the new tavern keeper at The Eviscerated Mouth, replacing Eslo Budpassionate.
- 147 — Lekla Neutralpeaches is discovered to be a necromancer by the town's unsuspecting populace and flees to the Courageous Hills. (editor's note: not sure how they didn't realize a necromancer was living here. i guess some of these guys are just doing whatever)
- 149 — The Still Company, a blacksmith’s guild, is founded. Its guildhall is named The Stroke of Tongs.
- 150 — Several would-be blacksmiths flock to Boysnack in hopes of joining the newly minted Still Company.
- 155-159 — Lene Stylesabre, an elven astronomer, writes several books on the movements of the heavens after having moved to Boysnack in 152 with her apprentice Tise Leapbolt.
- 160-186 — During this time of peace, many people come to Boysnack claiming to be from the Door of Weaknesses and seeking information. (editor's note: sorry but literally nothing interesting happened during these years, mostly just guys forming false friendships with other guys.)
- 187 — Minkot Shockedrope becomes the dean of the Still Company.
- 189 — Morul Tufttrumpets becomes a Mathematician in Boysnack.
- 190-195 — The Still Company continues to expand during these years as the town of Boysnack grows larger.
- 197 — The Theater of Bones constructs a tower it names the Bejeweled Artifices for the elven mercenary Conibo Latherhandles.
- 198 — Thithu Ivorytempests inherits the Bejeweled Artifices from his wife Conibo after her death in the Siege of Disemboweling.
- 199 —The philosopher Avetho Latherpriest settles in Boysnack, marrying Thithu.
- 202 — The Tan Temple of Hehan Sunnypainted the Cobalt is constructed by the Creed of Silver. The Theater of Bones also constructs the town’s catacombs, naming them The Certain Shafts. This year also sees the attempted assassination of Monom Ceilingfigures by Othala Droopyshrivels, who had been paid by the human leader Nocam Yelledoiled to eliminate Monom for refusing to take part in his schemes.
- 203 — The Grave of Winding is created to entomb Domas Quakehushed, the beloved Baroness of Lancerfang, and several books are stored within. Meanwhile, a dwarf necromancer named Domas Gorgeflukes takes up residence in the Certain Shafts.
- 204 — Boysnack comes under attack by The Carnal Cities, in what would come to be called the Third Conquest of Boysnack. Monom led the defense, but was struck down along with most of the town’s existing leadership. The Grave of Winding was looted of many of its books and the Rough Crews became the new government; however, shortly afterwards, the human nation The Joyous Confederation reconquers Boysnack, placing Nani Zephyrbeaks in charge as its baron. Avetho Latherpriest inherits the Bejeweled Artifacts after Thithu dies defending Boysnack in battle and later moves here. Domas, the guy taking up residence in the catacombs, flees for his life.
- 205 — The Hardy Palace is constructed by the new government as a home for its leader Nani.
- 208 — The human necromancer Ona Seasonravens moves into the catacombs.
- 211 — The Awe-Inspiring Cradles, a human collection of outcasts led by Casot Foldedlord, moves into the Eviscerated Mouth and becomes Boysnack’s primary criminal organization.
- 214 — The elf Dur Pastwoman becomes the tavern keeper at the Eviscerated Mouth. This year also sees many recruits to the Still Company. Idur Dawnglided, the harvest commissioner of Boysnack, begins embezzling funds under Casot’s influence.
- 215 — In this spring, Casot of the Awe-Inspiring Cradles and the baron Nani Zephyrbeaks agree to work together in criminal enterprise, with Idur Dawnglided serving as a go-between.
- 216 — Edu Brunchtangles, the chief counselor of the Sweet League, convinces Dur Pastwoman to begin embezzling.
- 218 — Citu Roastedshoot, a mercenary and sometime thief, steals two artifacts from Boysnack, including one out of the Eviscerated Mouth. The bracelet The Soaked Sands is eventually returned, but Citu continued to try and take it for his own for several years. The iron war hammer The Hollow Smokes took longer to return.
- 222 — The human Tadin Pantcat becomes the new tavern keeper at The Eviscerated Mouth.
- 224 — Casot buys a house in town. The Soaked Sands is stolen from the Eviscerated Mouth again, this time by Nemo Royalwax.
- 229 — The Hollow Smokes is stolen a second time.
- 230 - Nani Zephyrbeaks attempts to corrupt the elf Mawada Twocanyons to his side.
- 233 - Nani Zephyrbeaks is arrested, tried and executed for treason.
- 234 - Idur Dawnglided is executed due to her involvement in Nani’s plot. A new ruler, Ica Relievedjoked, is appointed to replace Nani as the baroness.
- 235 - The Soaked Sands is once more returned to the Eviscerated Mouth. Ica, who has now been corrupted by Edu as well, approaches Mawada Twocanyons offering a bribe, but she refuses.
- 236 - The young elf Tequil Helmedglosses, son of Idur Dawnglided, is kidnapped by a goblin and imprisoned by the Torments of Genius.

- 244 - The Confident Doctrines, a religion focused around the worship of The Rapid Saturninity, is formed in Boysnack.
- 247 - The elf Coce Swampbraved becomes the new tavernkeeper.
- 249 — Coce becomes the chief executioner of the Sweet League.
- 250 — Edu Brunchtangles becomes the new leader of the Still Company. As well, Tis Pantedstake becomes the new tavern keeper.
Nations and Deities
These are some of the deities worshipped by people in the area. Inclusion of a deity does not necessarily mean its influence is widespread in the Boysnack region; however, as Boysnack is a cultural melting pot, it would be amiss not to list them all.
The Confederations of Morning
Devsem the Murky — A human goddess of twilight, worshipped in the Confederations of Morning.
The Delightful Confederation
Apiv Blamelesssaviors — A human goddess who governs the spheres of healing and misery. She is worshipped in the Delightful Confederation.
Hehan Sunnypainted the Cobalt — A human god associated with light. Known for cursing people to be were-reptiles. The Tan Temple is dedicated to his worship.
Mebas Queenblossoms — A slightly unusual god, Mebas is the patron god of painters and is prayed to for inspiration. Mainy painters make offerings of sketches or small paintings at his temples, many depicting the coast, where legend says he once dwelled as a mortal. He is known to retaliate against the destruction of art in his temples by cursing the offender.
Mup Oozewandered — A human goddess associated with depravity. Not much is known about her worship.
Pundik — A goddess who rules the spheres of nature and family, she is often depicted as a harvest goddess.
The Door of Weaknesses
Amkin Friendsearch — A male dwarf deity who is a ssociated with mercy and forgiveness. He is the twin brother of Katthir Towerscrape.
Arak — A dwarven goddess associated with caverns and mountains. Considered to be the mother goddess in the pantheon, she is closely associated with Etur.
Etur — A dwarven goddess of jewels from the Door of Weaknesses. Somewhat odd in that her symbol is a shovel, representing the work of locating, cutting, and polishing gems to bring out their true shine.
Katthir Towerscrape — A female dwarf goddess who is associated with war and fortresses, she is the twin sister of Amkin Friendsearch.
Kosh — A minor dwarven god associated with chaos. The one book published that concerns him, My Friend Door, has been widely panned for its incomprehensible writing style, though the author insists that her critics simply don't understand the intent. (editor's note: unfortunately this book is not in the legends file. LAME. i guess i might be able to find it if i went looking in the town she wrote it in)
Litast the Mountainous Fountain — A fire imp deity from the Door of Weaknesses, representing volcanoes and the immovable earth. She represents both volatility and inevitability.
The Rapid Saturninity — A male dwarf deity associated with persuasion and poetry. Irene Stylecity founded The Confident Doctrines, a religion which worships him, in 244.
The Wealthy Stranger — A male dwarf god representing trade and wealth from the Door of Weaknesses. The Stranger embodies both good and bad luck in all matters and reminds us that some things come at a price.
The Habitual Nation
Gamo Fatalbones the Fated — A human goddess associated with death, Gamo is responsible for introducing at least two necromancers into the world through her legendary tablet Bonestombs. Notable followers include Lekla Neutralpeaches the human necromancer.
Hathur Bridgedtrade — A human god of trade. Prayers to him often ask for him to give both parties in a negotiation patience and mutual understanding.
Mirding — A goddess who governs the domain of fishing, Mirding is most often depicted as a giant olm, swimming in the underground caverns of the earth. She is said to bring thunderstorms down on people who anger her by overfishing.
Sizet — A human god associated with music and festivals, Sizet often appears as a traveling performer.
Zih the Gleam of Cloaks — A human goddess associated with twilight and the dawn, Zih is fairly popular amongst the people, and it is common for her worshippers to write their own hymns to her. An often referenced metaphor in these is "Zih's cloak of night", referring to the starry blue cloak or robe Zih is often depicted wearing.
(editor's note: zih's legends file has about a billion entries because of all the poems to her. they don't have legends entries BUT some of these are real all timers, see below)

The Joyous Confederation
Adith — Appearing as a male human, Adith is associated with scholarship.
Ebir Matcheven — A human goddess associated with balance.
Izem Willfulgoal the Growth of Duty —A human god, associated with youth.
Kas Shellshelp — Appears as a woman, associated with oaths.
Uja the Shady Ash — Uja governs the realms of dusk, twilight, and death. In 92, Ezum Squirtedchannels uncovered a slab made by Uja which allowed him to become a necromancer, paving the way for his apprentices to spread and proliferate out of control. (editor's note: it seems that uja here is at least partly responsible for the frankly absurd amount of necromancers running around in this world. also god damn, that guy's name. one chance at life and my parents named me SQUIRTEDCHANNELS!!!!)
Wur — An Allfather type god, he covers the realms of fertility, agriculture, storms, lightning, thunder and the rain. There are many writings and different schools of thought on his different facets and forms.
The Static Work
Aztong Frothphantom the Mangy — A goddess prayed to by doctors for guidance in treating debilitating diseases and injuries; she watches over patients who are suffering from severe illness, especially those caused by forgotten beast syndromes.
Osram Silverytreasure — A dwarven goddess of wealth.
Other Deities and Creatures
Idala — A force that is said to permeate the Deep Forest. Worshipped by elves, humans, dwarves and others, legends tell that it was responsible for creating all the forests and rivers in this world, as well as all the animals that live in it. (editor's note: elven deities work slightly differently from dwarven and human ones. elves basically worship the forest spirit of whatever area they live in, kind of like a shinto thing if it was one big spirit instead of a bunch of little ones i guess? anyway a lot of elves worship idala and one or two other deities from wherever they live in this universe.)
Palath Vaultjewels the Warmth of Wealths — A dragon older than time itself, Palath is mostly worshipped out of fear and is associated with wealth and fire. Notable for terrorizing towns and leaving the entire area a smouldering ruin, as well as devouring her enemies. She resides in Larvalumbras.
Structures and other Sites
The Shack of Steel (market)
An open air market spanning several flattened areas on the cliffs in western Boysnack. This market mostly sells imported food and other perishable goods, as well as some trinkets.
The Eviscerated Mouth (tavern)
A perennial fixture in Boysnack. Around since the town’s founding, it has changed hands several times. It has been host to a band of outlaws since 211, led by Casot Foldedlord. For some reason, the tavern keeper was charged with keeping one of the town’s artifacts, the Soaked Sands, until it was stolen twice by Nemo Royalwax. Its current master is Tis Pantedstake. The tavern offers rooms for rent as well as a place to wet your whistle and hear some of the locals perform, though its name fills some visitors with trepidation.
The Stroke of Tongs (guildhall) Constructed in 149 after the formation of the Still Company, it remains their headquarters to this day. The guildhall is fairly standard, with the bottom level being its
The Bejeweled Artifices (tower) Not to be confused with the nearby necromancer's tower, the Bejeweled Artifices was constructed for the wealthy mercenary Conibo Latherhandles. It is currently occupied by Avetho Latherpriest, who inherited it after marrying Conibo's husband Thithu after her death.
The Tan Temple (temple of Hehan Sunnypainted the Cobalt)
Dedicated to the human deity Hehan Sunnypainted. The above ground portion of the temple is a columned arcade with at least one statue depicting the deeds of Hehan, and his curses on mortals who disrespected his temples. From there, a ramp leads down into a pit which contains the main hall of the temple, surrounded by a reflecting pool. It is said that the pool, which reflects the sky overhead, is representative of Hehan’s shifting temperament.
The Certain Shafts (dungeon)
A maze of tunnels running underneath Boysnack. Mostly nondescript but for the occasional criminal or corpse. (editor's note: here you can see the final resting place of a guy i profile below, thithu ivorytempests. rip u_u thankfully rooting through his coffin failed to raise him as an undead)
The Grave of Winding (tomb)
The final resting place of many of Boysnack’s rulers. Notably, the tomb of Domas Quakedhushed, Baroness of Lancerfang, was here, though it seems to have recently been disturbed. There are several animate undead here, although unlike most undead, they pay little attention to visitors. Nevertheless, casual visits are not recommended. The Grave connects to the Tan Temple via underground passage, and many of the corridors of the Certain Shafts are linked to it as well.
(editor’s note: this is me after accidentally disturbing Domas Quakedhushed lol)
The Hardy Palace (keep)
The residence of the law-giver of Boysnack, a large fortified castle. Built for the first ruler of Boysnack, Nani Zephyrbeaks, it was passed on to the next ruler after his execution. It is currently occupied by Ica Relievedjoked.
Historical Figures
Avetho Latherpriest the elf (b. 109) — Avetho spent a solid amount of her life as an herbalist and sometimes soldier, bouncing around different towns and fighting in conflicts. In 199, after marrying Thithu, she immediately started her training as a philosopher in Championnourished, which took her away from Boysnack for long periods of time. Even after her husband's death in battle, she did not return to the Bejeweled Artifices to live there. . In 206, she remarried to Ithithi Crateroaks. Over the next 20 years, she wrote several treatises on ethical treatment of enemy combatants in war. It is speculated that her husband's death, despite his faults, was what inspired her to write on the topic. She recently divorced Ithithi; whether or not these two events are linked is anyone's guess.
Bilalo Lyricpractice the elf (b. ???) — The first mention of Bilalo in historical record is in 137, documenting her career change to herbalist after her settlement in Brushembrace. She spent the next 25 years fighting in skirmishes against the local bandit fortress Oilhatred. In 192, she joined the performance troupe The Weights of Sweetness as an apprentice of Thiti Urgeclearing and moved to Pricenuts. Her first play, Despairs, took seven years to write, but its critical acclaim elevated her to the rank of master herself. After taking her own apprentice and marrying her husvand Fale Ringcherished, she moved to Cavepetal in 215, where she still resides. She is most renowned for slaying the fell corpse of mercenary Conibo Latherhandles, a legend in the area. Works: Despairs; The Confident Thunder and Respect; Burden: Surely the Fool Can Say; The Quiescent Worker and Bane; The Wise Weep (editor's note: none of these appear in the legends file. which is too bad. i wanted to know what Despairs was about)
Casot Foldedlord the human (b. 143) — Leader of the Awe-inspiring Cradles since 173, Casot runs his gang out of the Eviscerated Mouth due to a long-standing agreement with the tavern's proprietors. He first made a name for himself after stealing the Hollow Smokes, a legendary He then influenced Idur Dawngilded to start embezzling for him, eventually earning enough money to purchase a home (though he continues to utilize the Mouth for his business, and to store his ill-gotten gains). He was once fed information by Nani Zephyrbeaks, but that ended with Nani's execution. Currently he seems to be trying his hand at assassination.
Citu Roastedshoot the human (b. 152) — After years of working as a milker in Wipedreigns, Citu turned to crime after being conscripted into the militia and forced to fight. Convicted of theft in 183, Citu would spend the next six years in prison. After his release, he took up animal training, before eventually returning to the battlefield as a mercenary. However, influenced by Manba Leafystuck, he began nicking legendary items from his clients' homes. In 225, he stole the Hollow Smokes and the Soaked Sands from Boysnack, one of his more famous heists. He is currently still active and has many legendary heists under his belt... though he does have a habit of stealing the same items over and over again.
Coce Swampbraved the elf (b. 79) — Coce was born in Yawningflight, and during almost 140 years of living there took no less than 11 lovers. in 216, he fled into the wilderness for unknown reasons, though the amount of broken hearts he'd left in Yawningflight is said to have something to do with it. He spent the next several years fighting in various battles around the Boysnack area, but later settled in Boysnack itself after he married Quathari Snarlingelbow in 247. Following a short stint as the tavern keeper, he was selected as the chief executioner of the Sweet League.
Conibo Latherhandles the elf (b. 92 d. 198) — After marrying Thithu Ivorytempests, she moved to Boysnack with him, becoming a member of the blacksmith guild and later a mercenary. Though gainfully employed, she was easily swayed by greed. She ended up stealing some artifacts from the surrounds to fund the construction and purchase of her new home, the Bejeweled Artifices, in 197. Unfortunately, Conibo did not get to enjoy the home for long, as she was slain by an elf fell corpse during the Boysnack Siege of Disemboweling of 198. Several years later, Conibo was reanimated as a fell corpse under the service of Lekla Neutralpeaches, and lived a short second life before being killed by Bilalo Lyricpractice.
Dacap Royalsnack the elf (b. ???) — Dacap came to Boysnack in 214 to join the burgeoning Still Company. It wasn't long before he was named the treasurer of the group. Around the same time, he decided to take up the sword and become a mercenary for hire. This led to his participation in several successful campaigns against the surrounding necromancer nations. After meeting Idur Dawnglided at a footrace in the area, the two became lovers. Their relationship resulted in a child, Tequil Helmedglosses, though they broke up in 232 without ever marrying. Despite this, they remained friends up until Idur's execution in 234. Dacap was heartbroken, and distanced himself from their child by throwing himself into mercenary work. It is rumored that he did not even notice when Tequil went missing. He has since dedicated himself to his work, to running in footraces, and to embezzling funds as the treasurer of the Still Company. (editor's note: i'm not 100% clear on what happens to non-dwarven kids when their parents die, but orphaned dwarven children usually just kind of hang around the fortress and take care of themselves, so i kind of made some shit up here. this guy kinda sucks anyway, i can see him doin' a child abandonment. poor tequil.)
Domas Gorgeflukes the dwarf necromancer (b. 53) — After traveling from town to town for a few years, Domas settled in Smithboat, becoming their chief medical dwarf. As Smithboat was under siege most of the time, Domas saw a lot of combat and a lot of brutal injuries. This may be what eventually led to her desire to take up necromancy, perhaps in the twisted hope of saving more people. She began worshipping Vesh in 84. After a period of unstable behavior including getting into a drunken brawl with a goblin, Domas was exiled in 115. After settling in Soulearthen, she spent several years in the militia as a medic, before divorcing her first husband and moving to Giftedstandard with her second in 129. Things were peaceful for a time, until her husband passed away. Heartbroken, Domas returned to Smithboat, where she was arrested for embezzling when she had been the chief medical dwarf. She was imprisoned for a period of 6 years. But shortly after her release, she apprenticed herself to Ral Shovelashes, and began to learn the ways of necromancy. Manipulating her lover (and later husband) Medtob into joining her schemes, they spent the next several years bribing people to get what they wanted, until Domas' immortality was discovered. Domas spent a short time hiding out in the Certain Shafts in Boysnack in 203, before becoming a bandit in the Moral Portals, a criminal gang. After a few years of this, she settled in Spiralcity, becoming a poet. She divorced her husband in 210 and spent the next several years fighting and manipulating people, before becoming very serious about her poetry and joining a performance troupe called The Russet Races in 224. (editor's note: ok this lady fuckin rules. poetry necromancer spy)
Domas Quakehushed the dwarf (b. 47 d. 203) — Born to Melbil Hushmirror and Tun Flagstance, Domas started off as a milker, but gave it up to become a philosopher instead. During the years when the was a soldier, she wrote her first book, and later moved to Washedray to further pursue her writing career in the Poetic Sanctuary. Her work focused on many topics, such as the value of art, the nature of existence, and her personal philosophy on how to live by compartmentalizing parts of your life. Connections formed by her fame as a writer eventually led to her being crowned as the baroness of Lancerfang in 126. As leader, she fought alongside her subjects in many attacks on the surrounding towns; the years 172-180 were particularly bloody and tragic. Despite her renown, she never married, though she took many lovers in her lifetime. After her death in 203, her body was entombed in Boysnack. Works: The Whole for Students; Knowledge in Practice; The Meaning of Ignorance; Training: The Definitive Guide; Treatise on Quality; Uncanny Crafts, (editor's note: damn lancerfang is metal as fuck)
Dur Pastwoman the elf (b. ???) — After a short stint as the tavern keeper at The Eviscerated Mouth, Dur was chosen to be the road commissioner of the Sweet League in 216. Though his tenure has been mostly uneventful, there are some accusations of embezzling which have mostly been brushed aside. Dur is well known as an amateur foot racer and has won many competitions at various festivals in the area. He often competes alongside his friend and political colleague, Edu Brunchtangles.
Edu Brunchtangles the elf (b. 39) — Little is known about Edu's life before Boysnack. He arrived in 214 with the intent of joining The Still Company, along with a few others. Not long after his arrival, he was appointed to fill the role of chief councilor, as Baron Nani Zephyrbeaks had supposedly taken notice of his efforts. The truth was that Edu was incredibly clever and charismatic, and after gaining an audience with Nani, sold him on a plan to embezzle money from the Sweet League. However, this plan failed, mostly due to the refusal of Mawada Twocanyons to cooperate. She exposed the plot, resulting in the eventual execution of Nani for treason. In retaliation, Edu and Nani's daughter Ica convicted
Mawada of treason herself, and executed her to keep her silence. Thanks to Edu's machinations, this treachery was never discovered. He has recently ascended to the position of Dean in the Still Company. Edu is also notable for competing in several festival races, winning at least twice. He initially took up racing alongside his fellow recruit to the Company, Rulak Marketdells. They married in 219; however, the marriage was dissolved less than a year later, and Edu never found another wife.
(editor's note: this guy SUCKS, i was going to find him so i could kill his ass but it didn't pan out.)
Ener Maroonivy the Bronze Times, the cyclops (b. ???) — An ancient cyclops older than recorded history itself, Ener Maroonivy has become somewhat of a legend in the area. While he only comes into this story briefly, he has been responsible for 68 deaths, and is the enemy of every major government in the area, to the point where he is feared as a god of thunder and lightning.
Ica Relievedjoked the human, Baroness of Boysnack (b. 205) — Born to Nani Zephyrbeaks and his wife Quabu Orburged, Ica's early life was somewhat traumatic. As a toddler, she was attacked by crones of the night. While she escaped unscathed, in 213 she was kidnapped by goblins from the Channels of Mesh and taken to Brimshot. After 8 years of imprisonment and hard labor, she broke free and returned to her home, though not unchanged. Having become strong due to her experience in Brimshot, she became a soldier, attacking the surrounding goblin towns. After her father's execution, she taveled to Boysnack and took up the mantle of Baroness in his place. Almost immediately after, she was corrupted by Edu Brunchtangles as an agent. She reached out to Mawada Twocanyons, attempting to corrupt her to her side, but failed. Using her powers as a baroness, Ica had Mawada wrongfully executed for treason in 239 as a form of revenge. She later went on to marry Gustem Handledskunk. (editor's note: why hereditary monarchy is a shitty idea, part 1/532)
Iden Inkyore the dwarf (b. 107) — Creator of the night’s eyes, a humanoid race that makes up the majority of Boysnack’s population. Iden began his life as a guard captain in the Abbey of Stoking (look this up). Though initially a just man, he began accepting bribes in 166. In 169, he became obsessed with death, looking to prolong his life through necromantic means. Oddly enough, in 175, he became lovers with the dwarf Reg Fortunelenses, a necromancer, but they broke up before Iden could achieve his goal. In 180, Kom Spongytrammeled taught Iden the secrets of life and death, and Iden immediately began taking apprentices. After authoring some manuscripts, Iden settled in Churchcudgel, becoming the leader of the Knowing Coal. This was the beginning of his horrible experiments on prisoners, changing them into scaly humanoids he named night’s eyes. Iden spent the next several years performing his duties as captain of the guard. He claimed the Soaked Sands from afar in 212, setting off a chain of conflicts between himself and Boysnack. He fled Churchcudgel after the people became suspicious of his seeming agelessness, settling in Jumptheater in 225 as a milker. Iden’s crimes finally caught up with him when he was assassinated by Adil Flightpaint the Dangerous. However, he was almost immediately resurrected as a fell corpse and spent the next several years working under his master, Unib Toollined. He belonged to the Azure Coven, a religion worshiping Shin.
Works: Foundations of the Tower; Never Underestimate The Author
Idur Dawngilded the elf (b. ??? d. 234) — Like many others at the time, Idur came to Boysnack in 214 to join the Still Company. Also like many others, she fell under the influence of Casot Foldedlord. After becoming harvest commissioner in 214, she not only began embezzling due to his influence, but also acted as his agent in the Sweet League while recruiting others to her scheme. She convinced Rulak Marketdells, the building caretaker, to begin embezzling in 218. In the next several years, things seemed to be going well for Idur, as she began dating Dacap Royalsnack and began competing as a footracer. However, after an investigation into Casot's influence on the Sweet League in 234, Idur's role in the plot came out and she fell under scrutiny. She confessed to her crimes and was executed as a traitor.
Lekla Neutralpeaches the human necromancer (b. 57) — Lekla moved to Dashunions in childhood. Unfortunately, his new home was embroiled in a war, and at the age of 12 he was recruited into the militia. Experiencing the horror of combat drove him to seek necromancy, as he developed a belief that his survival meant he was "chosen" and therefore could not die. A few scant years later, he began learning necromancy from Unib Toollined in Fortunephantoms. This began his attempts to create an information network in preparation for a possible coup, mostly failing. In 120, after Boysnack was conquered by the Ages of Springing, he moved there to work at a fishery while hiding his true identity. While living there, he bought his own house after winning quite a bit of money gambling, and even had designs on the legendary spear the Polish of Jumping. However, his agelessness led the people of Boysnack to discover his necromantic experiments, and he was run out of town in 147. Having been unable to convince people to go with his plans through words, he turned to reanimating corpses to create obedient subordinates. He has spent almost 100 years leading the Ultimate Gorges, a dwarven group operating out of his tower Murkpost which mostly consists of corpses he has raised. He seems to have a penchant for resurrecting regional heroes to serve as his intelligent lieutenants; these unfortunate souls are known as fell corpses. His power has been significantly increased by this practice, as well as by his manipulation of friends and family. He has taken several apprentices over the years, his current one being one Tholtig Treasurecloistered. Works: New Dashunions; The Fortress and Beyond; The Nuanced Tower; Meditations on the Tower; The Dwarves Questioned (editor's note: just so you guys know, i'm not blowing this guy up for no reason. these are real screenshots from his legends file lmao)

Lene Stylesaber the elf (b. ???) — One of the first of her kind, Lene studied elven astronomy for over 100 years before deciding to finally leave her forest retreat. She settled in Boysnack in 152 and wrote many of her most influential treatises on astronomy there before moving to Fancyearthen in 219. Mawada Twocanyons the elf (b. ??? d. 239) — Mawada's role in the story of Boysnack is short, but important. After wandering the wilds for several years, she married her husband Romimi Sunbristle and settled in Boysnack. Her slight fame as a fighter earned her a position as the Sweet League's keeper of the seal later that year. In 230, the count Nani Zephyrbeaks attempted to corrupt Mawada on behalf of Casot Foldedlord, the criminal. However, Mawada refused, and reported his attempt to the authorities. For this, Nani was executed, though the Sweet League failed to trace where the money was going, and others involved in the scheme mostly escaped scrutiny. Edu Brunchtangles, the dean of the Still Company, and Ica Relievedjoked, the daughter of Nani and the new countess of Boysnack, plotted to frame Mawada for treason. To accomplish this, they forged evidence alleging that Mawada had been in contact with the person behind the embezzling scheme and was involved in planning it. Due to their high statuses, no one questioned Mawada's swift conviction and near-immediate execution. Despite knowing that the system was rigged against her, Mawada faced her end with pride.
Morul Tufttrumpets the dwarf (b. 177) — Born and raised in Boysnack, Morul began his studies in mathematics at the age of 12. For the next two years, however, war would keep him from his studies, as he was recruited into the militia as a defender. After a few years of working at the Poetic Sanctuary in Washedray, he was approved for an apprenticeship under Fikod Shanktin the legendary mathematician in 195. His career as a mathematician has been quite illustrious, with him having written books. After marrying his wife, Ducim Silveryscorch, he recently moved to Grouppillars to be her count consort.

After a short army career with the Joyous Confederation, Nani was placed in charge of Boysnack as its administrator in 204, and then as its baron. To commemorate his rise to the position, Nani had the Hardy Palace built as the seat of his power and wealth. For almost 10 years, Nani was a fair and just ruler, but in 215 he agreed to take part in a spying scheme dreamed up by Casot Foldedlord, and began feeding him information through his agent Idur Dawngilded. This continued undetected until 230, when Nani attempted to sway Mawada Twocanyons into joining him in the conspiracy. But unfortunately, it was only 3 years later that definitive evidence of his crimes was uncovered. He was executed for treason in the early spring of 233 at the age of 53. It is said that he faced death calmly and even a little enthusiasm, as his goddess Uja the Shady Ash would desire. The current ruler of Boysnack, Ica Relievedjoked, is his daughter.
Nemo Royalwax the elf (b. 202) — Nemo was abducted at an early age and taken to Vilecried, where he grew up. After a short stint as a butcher, Nemo turned to crime. However, the ruler of the nation, a fiend of clear tourmaline named Atkil Puppetsjackals the Loyal Poisons, grew angry at the burgeoning religion and forced its practicioners out of Vilecried. Suddenly free to go, Nemo fled to Flagpanther and returned to his life as a thief. This landed him in prison for 5 years, and upon his release this time, he reinvented himself as a merchant. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Guild of Tribes, the area merchant's guild, and became the master factor of the counting house in Waxrack. However, this was a front for more thievery, as Nemo began stealing artifacts to sell. He twice stole the Soaked Sands from Boysnack in service of a Kubuk's warrior named Niwir Diveguises.
Ona Seasonravens the human necromancer (b. 98 d. 250) — Ona appeared out seemingly out of nowhere to become the beastmaster of the Society of Weakness in 126. Unbeknownst to everyone, at this time he already craved the power of necromancy, and it was only a few years until he attained it in 131. He left the Society a few years alter, instead choosing to join the Doctrines of Mystery, a necromancer-centric religion worshipping Uja the Shady Ash. In the following 70 years, Ona assumed the false identity Ethithi Faxthunder, a poet from the Silkinesses of Scribing; using this ruse, he influenced events and gathered information for his cult in the nearby town of Brandtufted. In 208, after the ruse was finally revealed, Ona fled to Boysnack in terror, and began living out of the Certain Shafts. He continued to visit nearby towns and corrupt townspeople to his side, but this time, he was out for his own glory. Unfortunately for him, he would be killed on sight if he showed his face in Boysnack, so he was forced to live in the catacombs and attack those who ventured into them, hoping to grow an undead army. However, in 250, he was slain by Luto Testfound, a type of necromantic experiment called a "demon of Zilarapo", in self-defense. (editor's note: yeah, i killed this guy in the sewers with one of my adventure mode characters cause he sucks)

Seeing violence left her cynical and jaded, to the point where she began spending more time away from her husband, childhood sweetheart Sigun Leopardbolted. in 107, Rovod went on a quest to retrieve the artifact Dellgrowled. Though she was successful and unharmed, this put further strain on her relationshio with Sigun, and they divorced in 111. Her fame, however, continued to grow. When the Door of Weaknesses conquered Boysnack in 120, she was placed in charge due to her record in combat. The next 80 years went by relatively peacefully, with Rovod taking a string of lovers. In 204, Rovod once again fled into the Bulbous Hills, this time to become a member of the bandit gang the Moral Portals. For a good 20 years, she lived a double life, until becoming obsessed with death after her move to Spiralcity. The members of her bandit group introduced her to necromancer Ineth Pulleypet, who took her as his apprentice in Laboredbuds. She remains in training today, currently writing books on necromancy.

Errata
Some statues are scattered around Boysnack as shrines to one religion or another. Here is one dedicated to the Aqua Creed:
Many of these shrines have fortune-telling dice stacked on their steps, and commemorate some person or other ascending to rank in the religion it commemorates.
Some are more dramatic.
