It's that time of year where my friend and I spend a week giving Ferdinand a spring/summer shave, and he looks less than thrilled about it.
It's not necessary to give long haired cats a shave in the summer, I do it because Ferdinand hates every brush I have ever tried. I would rather him look a little silly if it means keeping the hairballs down. They got pretty bad before we started doing this.
If you do need to shave your cats, or need to sanitary trim their pantaloons, I wholly recommend using men's ball hair trimmers. A third of the sound of normal clippers, so they don't freak him out. Plus they don't nick or cut him if he should flinch or pull away. The only downside is it's a little slow going, and it takes a few sessions to clean up the trim so he doesn't look like he was carved out of foam with a chainsaw.
