Anyone that's got a longhair cat that's starting to get too old to self-manage their winter/summer coats... you got any tips?

My baby is 18/19ish (unsure of exact age) and I wanna make sure she's as comfortable as possible cause summer here is hot AF. She's grown very fond of being brushed (sometimes lol; she can be moody). I just wanna get some anecdotal advice from folks. Is brushing the old coat out just the best that can be done?

It's good to see these two getting along so well with each other after Sam passed on. I'm sure they both miss him and are taking comfort in each other's presence.
