sweet poor baby boy Naberius was in the hospital yesterday because he injured his tongue. about 1/4th of his tongue is missing completely from the right side of his mouth. don't know how this happened. best guess is that he bit himself during a seizure.

i'm scared this can happen even when we've worked to reduce his seizure frequency. i'm worried an injury this severe can happen again. most of all, i'm really fucking pissed at pet insurance! because they refuse to cover any care related to his seizures.

i knew he had seizures when i adopted him from the humane society. they listed it as a "seizure condition" because only a neurologist can actually diagnose. the past few months have been a real struggle to figure out his best care, best med plan, best feeding plan. been to his primary care vet and the specialist neurologist multiple times. even got the neurologist to give him the new diagnoses of epilepsy.

and pet insurance has left me out to dry on all of this. even with the new diagnoses. "its a pre-existing condition" they say and refuse to cover any of his care. they won't even cover his meds. just completely fucked! how can the program meant to support Naberius' health and well being not do anything for his chronic condition? since when are have seizures not considered a health issue? i hate this whole fucking system.

i'm really worried they won't cover this hospital trip. because its likely he injured himself during a seizure. we don't know for sure, but we can't rule it out. is that enough to deny more coverage? i want to tell my vet "please write your notes in a way that communicates this as a unique injury not related to his seizures" just on the hope that it will be covered. but i can't really say that right? that's insurance fraud.

so how much can i imply before it becomes conspiracy to insurance fraud? guess i'm going to find out.
