trying to get more into writing longer articles and using my blog more, so here's my thoughts on the (mis)use of the word hiraeth.
#celtic languages
i know they're all celtic languages, but seeing that scottish gaelic for "tired" is "sgìth" makes me so happy bc it's like.. ahh it's "skwith/skith" and "skuizh" in cornish and breton respectively, and that's so fun for me, i love it when languages are related.
"Gostyngiad 'siomedig' yn nifer y siaradwyr Cymraeg"
'Disappointing' decrease in the number of Welsh speakers
oh interesting, i thought that the scots "braw" must have been a loanword from gaelic and be cognate with the irish "breá" and welsh "braf", but "bra" is a word in swedish that means the same/similar so i guess it's not from gaelic/a celtic root?? i will have to investigate further.
ooh the swedish comes from low german "brav" which comes from french "brave" which comes from italian "bravo". the welsh "braf" also comes from the french (i assume from the norman invasion??).
