The pitch for 'Hipstamatic D-Series' (so innocent with their naming, lmfao) was simple;

It was a camera app much like mainline Hipstamatic where you’d pick a “film” type (read: photo filter), but instead of shooting your photos and them being in your camera roll, you needed to shoot the whole 'roll' of 24 exposures before you could see them - and here’s the fun part - you would invite friends to the camera, so each of you share the total 24 exposures, and all participants were sent the final album when the 24th was shot.

I had a few ongoing ones; one of my favs was called "Noon" where everyone on the camera would take a random photo at their respective noon. Once it was completed, we'd start another. It was a neat look into everyone's lives.

Hipstamatic shut the app down years ago; it still partially worked if you had it installed but the 64-bit app store purge killed it for good.

It was the closest thing to sharing a drug store kodak disposable, and the online nature of it meant you could do this type of random fun with friends far away. Plus, it was friends only - nothing public, no social network built-in unless you manually shared the photos elsewhere.

Best guess is that the online portion of it and it being a free app made it cost prohibitive, but I really wish something like this existed still.
