mintaka is a fire mage who once lived with his parents, two sisters, and a hodgepodge group of other refugees. mintaka cared much for his family (and he still does), and he was worried for their safety. a malevolent entity took advantage of mintaka's fear and tricked him into becoming a nebulae-- a very powerful but cruel, possessed being created when a star kills many others and absorbs them. mintaka unintentionally killed and many people including his own parents.

years later, he eventually broke free of of the possession holding him, but by that time none of his old friends or family wanted anything to do with him; after all, he was a murderer, even if he had control over what had happened. his older sister betelgeuse saved him from being killed for his crimes while as a nebula, but she still exiled him from their community.

mintaka comes across as very friendly and peppy, albeit very clumsy, reckless, and airheaded. he is a pacifist with a kind heart and likes helping other. deep down, though, he is severely depressed and self-loathing over what he did as a nebula, though he tries to hide this side from other.
