Monthly challenge in a discord server I'm in ^-^ the prompts were all very geared towards making a scary monster, but I always like to tend towards more realistic designs and prefer animals over monsters 🤭
They've got
- Flat front teeth and elephant-like molars for grinding up rotten wood and any insects and critters deep inside
- A long segmented gut for fermentation of plant matter
- Sharp iguana like claws for tearing into dirt and logs
- Odor sensitive prehensile tentacles for finding and manipulating food
- A large frill with seven "eyes" for threat desplay and courtship
There's also no way the young occupy the same niche as adults, so they undergo an Ontogenetic niche shift as they become larger, slowly incorporating more wood into their diet as they hunt for insects in rotting foliage.
