A Peachy Disguise
Find me here: CARRD
Believed to be the rib cage of a long dead beast, the echoes of voices and distant howls sound throughout the long days.
The Echo appears to be made of something akin to bone. Arcs of this hard material jut up towards the sky and tower over any who walk under them. Because of their equal distance between each other as well as their declining height, many believe The Echo is the rib cage of a giant beast now dead and buried.
The Echo gets its name from the odd way it will echo back any loud sounds funneled thought it. Occasionally, a roar echoes through the area as well, but the source of this sound has never been found.
The original consensus was that a large creature of the Void fell in this spot and died, but this went up for debate since it was realized that Void creatures melt into nothingness in the light— they don't rot and leave behind bones. In fact, very few creatures of The Ageless Black leave behind bones when they die and the ones that do have never become this large. The more accepted theory is that it might be the remains of whatever hit the Void to create The Ageless Black, that the impact probably killed it and it was buried in the transforming land. If it was something from outside the Void, that could explain its size. While most believe that such a beast crashed into the land, the roars make some postulate that the creature didn't die, but rather it is now trapped underground, roaring in pain as well as for help.
(cripes, I forgot how bleak the history was for this one. my bad)
The Atlantic horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) is the only extant species of horseshoe crab in the Americas, the others being limited to Asia. They are sometimes given the misnomer "living fossil" for their apparent similarity to organisms dating to the Triassic and relatives as far back as the Devonian.
